Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at Lamar University offers four undergraduate degrees and two graduate degrees, in addition to an exciting curriculum designed to inspire you every day. The department fully immerses its students in the cultural study of music, its composition, performance techniques, education, history, and more. Here, you can sing in a chorus, go to a live performance, compose an original piece, enjoy music of various genres and play your instruments, all while refining your natural gifts and talents.
Surrounded by artistic institutions all all over our area, we strongly encourage our students to participate in Southeast Texas' cultural life. Some of these facilities include the Symphony of Southeast Texas, Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society, Beaumont Community Players, Beaumont Ballet Theatre and the Beaumont Civic Ballet.
What You'll Do - Position tasks
Reporting to the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music chairperson, the Administrative Coordinator manages and coordinates department operations. tasks for this position include:
» Provide administrative support for the Music Department, working closely with departmental leadership abilities
» Prepare, maintain, and create various schedules, calendars and/or event documentation all over the year
» Manage activities within the Music Department office, which includes communications budgeting, workflow, inquiries, and/or other related information. Also, maintain office supplies, equipment and reference materials
» Create correspondence, letters, presentations, reports, spreadsheets, and data management activities as needed and responds to written and/or oral inquiries as directed
» Participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of student office workers and other non-academic support staff
» Greet visitors, screen and answer phone calls, provide general information/referrals and schedule appointments for the department chairperson
» Enter and track purchase order requisitions for the department
» Receive, sort, and route postal mail and email
» Apply, interpret, and communicate policies and procedures, and serve as a resource for answering questions regarding departmental policies
» Represent the Music Department Office at various events as may be requested by the department chairperson
» Coordinate and communicate regularly with other university staff, especially those in the College of Fine Arts and Communication
» Other tasks as assigned

» Working knowledge of, and the capability to apply, academic and business terminology, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
» Secretarial/administrative support practice, especially in an educational setting
» An knowledge of university or high school Music Department operations including as a band, choir, etc. student in high school or college
» practice working in higher education setting and/or office of admissions/recruiting preferred
» This position requires personal contact everyday with employees within the Music Department, students, and the general public, in structured situations which involves obtaining, clarifying, or giving facts or information.
» Although the position is primarily sedentary (sitting most of the time), the position involves moving about inside narrow storage closets and cabinets. Occasionally, the position requires lifting, carrying or loading boxes, instrument cases and other equipment weighing up to 20 pounds from or to heights of 3-4 feet.
