Position Summary The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) Facility invites applications for a part-time (0.50 FTE), 12-month, academic wage position as the X-Ray Diffraction Facility Manager. This position is anticipated to last one year.

The Manager of the X-Ray Diffraction facility (XRD) will direct and supervise the operation of the Oregon State University (OSU) XRD Facility and provide skills to enable growth and expansion of X-Ray diffraction-located research and education at OSU.

The Oregon State X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) Facility provides services, tools, and training for XRD related work for both OSU members and outside collaborators. We strive to tackle complex problems focused on the characterization of atomic structures through judicious collection of X-Ray data. While diffraction is the most common type of data collected in our facilities, we also have the equipment and skills to execute total scattering experiments such as pair distribution function analysis and small angle X-Ray scattering. The wide variety of research we support demands flexibility and our facility places an emphasis on working closely with users to tailor equipment configurations to satisfy different experimental needs. We have five instruments in the College of Science (COS) and one instrument in the College of Engineering (COE). In COS these include: the Rigaku Ultima for powder and thin film X-ray diffraction and thin film reflectivity, Rigaku SmartLab for X-ray total scattering, Rigaku Miniflex (with 9-position sample changer) for routine powder diffraction, Anton Paar SAXsess for small-angle X-ray scattering, and Rigaku Synergy for single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In COE there is a Bruker D8 theta-theta system with various attachments for epitaxial thin films, in situ temperature measurements, and mapping experiments. The instrumentation can be found in the basement floor of Gilbert Hall, the Agricultural & Life Sciences Building, and Dearborn Hall.

The Colleges of Science and Engineering have a core function at OSU, driving the learning, scholarship, and engagement that are the foundation of a land-grant university. The Colleges embrace research and innovation, in disciplines across the quantitative, physical and life sciences and engineering which are located in unbiased inquiry and a dedication to discovery. The Colleges are committed to partnering with industry and public agencies to address some of the most compelling challenges of today and tomorrow.

OSU has an institution-wide commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and community. We actively engage in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and student body that includes members of historically underrepresented groups. We strive to build and sustain a welcoming and supportive campus environment. OSU provides leadership abilities opportunities for people interested in promoting and enhancing diversity, nurturing creativity, and building community. All employees are responsible for helping to maintain and enhance OSU's collaborative and inclusive community that strives for equity and equal opportunity.

Position tasks All COS employees are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, including efforts promoting equitable results among learners of diverse and underrepresented identity groups. For further explanation of COS's vision and principles, please see information on the five goals captured in the 2021-2024 Strategic Diversity Action Plan, Embedding Equity, Access, and Inclusionhttps://science.oregonstate.edu/diversity-plan.
