Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Family Medicine is one of eleven clinical departments at the Brody School of Medicine. The purpose of the department is to improve the health of the people of eastern North Carolina through leadership abilities in Family Medicine education, research and health care services. The department provides accessible, high quality health care for its patients.

The Department of Family Medicine consists of seven divisions, as well as a central administration office. Each division has a responsibility that supports the overall mission of the department. The divisions include educational development, research, medical student education, residency, geriatrics, clinical services, and sports medicine. Clinical activities take place in the Family Medicine Center, Robert and Frances Monk Geriatric Center, Firetower Medical Office, nursing homes, Vidant Medical Center and in the community.

Job tasks The Department of Family Medicine is seeking a Patient Access manager candidate. The manager will supervise the everyday operational functions of patient access representatives in the clinical site and will be responsible for training and updating employees with any changes in policy or processes, and ensure employees understand job expectations. The manager will be responsible for mediation and resolving problems and providing internal management to Family Medicine. The manager will serve as a liaison between patients, staff and providers. Operational hours for this position are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION - NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/practice High school diploma or equivalency and two years of progressively responsible administrative/office management practice, including some practice as a lead worker; or equivalent combination of training and practice.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation None

Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education Three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management practice; or graduation from a two-year secretarial science or business administration program and one year of practice as described above; or graduation from a four-year college or university, preferable with a major emphasis on Business Administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and practice preferred. Strong managery expertise preferred.

expertise of automated registration, provider scheduling, billing, authorization and referral requests, insurance management, managed care, and financial counseling, with data entry expertise being highly desirable.

Computer expertise are essential strongly preferred.
