Audio Journalist/Multimedia Reporter
Northern California Public Media (NorCal) is currently seeking an audio journalist/multimedia reporter for the radio news department. located in Sonoma County, CA, NorCal serves the San Francisco region. Comprised of two public television stations, KRCB and KPJK, and one public radio station, KRCB FM, NorCal offers PBS and NPR programming to the community. The emphasis of this position is primarily on our radio station and connected online outlets. KRCB 104.9 provides four hourly newscasts each weekday in NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
Overview:
The prosperous candidate will possess a passion for audio storytelling, be able to file radio features and/or news spots quickly and be able to juggle multiple deadlines. tasks will include but are not limited to regularly producing 4-minute-long, engaging and informative audio stories for radio broadcast, posting stories on norcalpublicmedia.org and actively managing the news department's social media. The job requires routine reporting in the field across Sonoma County and doing live ?stand-ups' from the scene. Occasionally, Information technology may entail assisting with live television news broadcasts and helping with audience engagement. This position will work under the supervision of the news director.
Essential Job tasks:
   » Pitches and develops story ideas for news broadcasts
   » Adopts certain beats and stays on top of news developments within those beats
   » Reports, produces, and edits news stories for broadcast on the radio, with special attention to using diverse sources
   » capability to manage and produce longer-form features while also being flexible to turn around everyday news stories
   » capability to go live on the radio or tv during breaking news as needed
   » May be asked to work outside normal hours, including weekends and evenings, during breaking news events such as a major fire
expertise, expertise, and Abilities:
   » Bilingual Spanish speaker strongly preferred
   » At least one year practice in broadcast journalism and audio production
   » Excellent communication expertise
   » Some expertise or familiarity with Northern California, particularly issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
   » Proficiency with digital field audio recording equipment
   » Digital audio editing practice, ideally Adobe Audition
   » A track record of turning around sound-rich, compelling audio stories on a tight deadline
   » capability to collaborate on projects with a team
   » Strong time management and organizational expertise
   » Flexibility and enthusiasm for assisting with other projects as needed
Compensation :
income range $45,000-$50,000 depending upon practice. This is a full-time, non-exempt (40 hours/week) position. Benefits offered-medical, dental, and 403B. Temporary remote work due to COVID-19.
