Position Title:: Summer Direct Care SCHOLARS

Position Summary or Faculty Appropriate qualifications: The Direct Care Scholar is a paid opportunity at Saint Joseph's University. Staff work 1-on-1 with individuals with Autism, a social-communication disorder which involves deficits in communication, appropriate social interaction, and regulating sensory input/restricted interests. In lieu of such deficits, individuals with autism often develop inappropriate behaviors to communicate or adapt to their environment. Behaviors that may be exhibited can range from hand-flapping, yelling, or crying to more intensive behaviors such as tantrumming, aggression, or self-injury. Applied Behavior Analysis is a scientific methodology utilized to address such behaviors, through in-depth and continuing assessment, intervention, and data analysis. Under the supervision of Certified Behavior Analysts and working besides Kinney SCHOLARS, Direct Care Scholar will work with an assigned client to achieve agreed upon goals. These clients come to Kinney during our Summer Camp Program.

tasks and Job responsibilities:: · Commit up to 24 hours a week of support.
· Attend all assigned program sessions.
· Maintain the confidentiality of the students involved in Kinney Center programs.
· Attend scheduled training's and meetings with Kinney Center staff, graduate adjuncts, and other Direct Care Scholar.
· Serve as a trainer and/or manager for new SCHOLARS.
· Take the lead on clients with challenging behaviors
· Adhere to deadlines set by Kinney Center staff including the completion of progress reports, graphs, grids, etc.
· Implement and adhere to prescribed schedules, interventions and curriculum for each program, including individualized behavior plans and support plans (i.e. IFSP, IEP, ISP).
· Discuss any concerns or ideas regarding clients, the program, or issues affecting job performance with the Graduate adjunct or Program Director.
· Arrive on time for all program assignments, trainings, and meetings.

Secondary Job responsibilities:: · Assist with logistics for all programs/event, specifically pertaining to setup and breakdown during the program.
· Act as a mentor and function model
In the case of our Summer Camp, Direct Care SCHOLARS will be asked to get into the pool to swim with clients.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:: The work tends to be physically demanding at times. Direct Care SCHOLARS will be trained in CPR and CPI (Crisis avoidance Intervention)
Might have to work some Nights and Saturday programs

Minimum Requirements:: High School Diploma
Working on a Bachelors Degree
