Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill approximately 2 part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Griggs Center Peer Tutor positions for the Griggs Center at Oregon State University (OSU).

Peer Tutors work individually and with small groups of EOP students over the course of the term (week 2 through week 10) to help them better understand course material and prepare for assignments and exams. In addition to helping students with course content, Peer Tutors share study strategies and demonstrate methods for how students can find the answers for themselves, with the goal that through tutoring, EOP students build the expertise that will allow them to excel in their classes. Tutors must become familiar with tutoring strategies that equip students with active learning expertise. EOP tutors need to have prosperously completed any courses that they tutor with a B or higher (in some cases they my currently be taking the course).

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Transcript
   » An interest in helping others be prosperous in college.
   » practice interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.
   » Previous success in some of the most commonly tutored courses (MTH 111-252, CH 100 or 200 series, BI 200 series, PH series, ECON, ST)
   » The capability to arrange a tutoring schedule directly with students and manage one's own schedule.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » 3.0 GPA
   » Work study preferred
   » practice tutoring others (paid or unpaid)
   » Current or past EOP, LSAMP, TRIO, CAMP, or LLC Nia munk-skukum enrollment/involvement
   » An knowledge of EOP student population (first-generation college students, low-earnings students, and historically underrepresented communities)
