We educate and train young oncologists to be oncology thinkers and not just doers. Job tasks Nurse Specialists are skilled practitioners in the treatment and care of specialized or acute and critically ill patients. Utilizing considerable expertise of the specialty area, employees provide comprehensive nursing care through independent nursing assessment and evaluation of patient conditions. Employees serve as a primary resource for other clinical staff in the specialty area, providing expert consultation and/or in-service training. If involved in research, responsibilities include administering protocols and providing advanced level technical advise on the condition of patients. The research oriented nurse specialist serves as a liaison for the physician PI. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Minimum Education/practice Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing practice, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
