Alaska Public Media is recruiting an practiced journalist to cover statewide news.
This reporter will cover topics to include business, resource development, politics and the pandemic,viewing stories through a broad lens. This beat is defined by the stories that impact Alaskans most. This reporter will coordinate and collaborate, when appropriate, with regional stations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on high impact journalism at a dynamic time in Alaska. Alaska Public Media is the source of NPR radio and PBS television for South central Alaska and stewards the statewide news network of public media stations.

Essential Functions:
The Statewide Reporter will:
? Continually generate quality story ideas that go beyond basic news and deep into high stakes and engaging issues that will help determine the future of our region and state.
? Produce in depth and quick turn stories on those issues that resonate for audiences in and beyond Alaska.
? Requesting, collecting and reviewing public documents, reports and other sources of information on newsworthy subjects. Report and produce stories for Alaska Public Media, public media stations statewide and Alaskapublic.org
? Participate in a collaborative news team environment where reporters and editors work with each other across beats to raise the level of journalism in the entire newsroom.

tasks and Job responsibilities:
In addition to the above functions, the Statewide Issues Reporter will:
? Capture audio, and edit radio and multimedia packages.
? Post news stories and other material on Alaskapublic.org
? Work comfortably and effectively in a team-located environment.
? Take part in and/or host various news, public affairs, election and community affairs programs for radio, TV and Web or civic functions.
? Meet deadlines, abide by AP style, uphold professional journalistic standards and apply strong news judgement.
? Pitch and/or produce stories for NPR or PBS.
? Travel occasionally all over the state and nearby regions, including remote areas.
? Report and produce stories on multiple platforms.

Required Appropriate qualifications:
? practice working in a everyday broadcast, print or web news environment.
? capability to work collegially and effectively with multiple stakeholders and audiences.
? capability to work collegially and effectively in a team-located organization.
? capability to travel all over the state and nearby regions, including remote areas, by car, boat or plane.

Desired Appropriate qualifications:
? Bachelor's Degree plus three years' reporting practice.
? practice with multimedia production.
? knowledge of digital reporting (writing, photography, video).
? Competency in broadcasting operations and editing (audio, video, photo) software.
? Familiarity with public radio and television news and programming.

Competencies:
? Act in conformity with AKPM policies.
? Support AKPM compliance efforts with FCC, CPB, NPR and PBS rules and regulations
? Communicate effectively.
? Apply critical thinking and problem solving expertise.
? Maintain positive relationships with both internal and external customers.
? Demonstrate consistent outstanding customer service.
? Proficient at computer use to include office software products, custom software
packages, internet and e-mail.
? Consistently demonstrate ethical behavior.
? Must exercise good judgement for the prompt completion of responsibilities.
