Position Summary: Under the direction of the Program Director or Dean of Kemmons Wilson School, The Chef Instructor will provide instruction at Kemmons Wilson Culinary Institute (here after known as KWCI) for the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management at the University of Memphis. The Chef Instructor's focus will be on the various concurrent programs at KWCI: Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality with Culinary Arts Concentration, Pastry and Baking Minor, Culinary Arts Minor, Catering and Special Events Minor, Culinary Essentials Certificate, et al. Additionally, other programs, such as Professional Development Courses (Including ServSafe® programs), Recreational Cooking Classes, and miscellaneous cooking classes.

This position is a 9-month position with administrative task flexibility, and as such, the Chef Instructor will additionally be responsible for developing materials for research, food science, and S.T.E.M. initiatives in conjunction with KWCI's existing program and coordinating with members of the KWS and KWCI faculty and staff to implement the program.

Minimum Position Appropriate qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business Administrations, or related field; or Associates degree with equivalent work practice in research and development AND certification with the American Culinary Federation of Certified Executive Chef or Certified Master Chef. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of practice in culinary education is required. practice working with programs such as Research Chefs of America desired. Additionally, the following are required expertise:

· Strong verbal and written communication, customer service and problem-solving expertise are imperative.
· Basic computer literacy, which must include capability to work effectively in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or similar programs.
· Strong interpersonal expertise, as well as the capability to work effectively with multiple teams to respond to student and University needs.
· capability to use sound judgement and discretion in handling sensitive student issues with confidentiality and discretion.
· capability to work independently or in a team environment.
· Must currently have or be able to acquire certification in ServSafe or other Food Safety Programs.

Familiarity with various Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas and D2L Brightspace is desired.

Special Conditions: The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management at the University of Memphis, created and named for the founder of Holiday Inns, has positioned itself as a prominent program providing a contemporary education, with an emphasis on lodging, resort and sport management. Students lgain what Information technology takes to effectively run a prosperous hospitality business such as a hotel or a restaurant and sport-related marketing and events through a mix of class work, applied industry practices and a required 360 hours of internship in the industry. Housed in a full-service, award winning Holiday Inn hotel and conference center, students see first-hand service standards, business challenges and real-time operations. Several courses in the curriculum are fully integrated into the day-to-day operations of the Holiday Inn hotel.

The Kemmons Wilson School offers two undergraduate programs and a graduate program with two concentrations. Graduates can complete a B.A. degree in Hospitality and Resort Management or a B.S. in Sport and Leisure Management which is also offered online. At the graduate level, students can complete a M.S. program in Sport and Hospitality Management with a concentration either in Sport Commerce or Hospitality Management.

Our programs provide an education designed to prepare students for a 21st century career in the rapidly growing fields of hospitality and sport management. The industries are among the largest employers in the world with a global presence. Field practice gives students opportunities to lgain while working in a variety of settings such at the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Orange Lake Resorts, Hilton Worldwide Hotels, the Peabody Hotel Group, the Grizzlies and the Red Birds. Career opportunities abound in this fast growing field and Kemmons Wilson School graduates are prepared to excel in these dynamic and ever changing industries.

The Bureau of Sport and Leisure Commerce at KWS and collaboration with other academic departments at the University provides several research and publication and funding opportunities for faculty. Internal grant funding is available to faculty for summer projects.

KWS benefits from numerous connections with the Mid-South hospitality industry and has an active and highly supportive advisory board comprised of leading hospitality executives. Funding for KWS provides resources for scholarships, academic programs and faculty, all targeted to expand the program to attain global recognition.
