EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
West Mt Airy (WMAN) seeks an Executive Director to lead this vibrant civic organization -- with a rich and important history -- and take Information technology to the next level. With the right individual at the helm, WMAN is ready to expand on our mission to support the flourishing of our social fabric in all its diversity, and tohelp safeguard and steward the transformationsof our beloved physical and natural environments.
WMAN was founded in 1953 by a group of Mt. Airy residents and religious leaders who were concerned about the dangers of redlining and blockbusting. More about the history of WMAN can be found at our website: https://wman.net/wman-history/
The Executive Director's top priorities for the first year will be to: 1) grow the Center's financial capacity by building a strong member and donor base of individual and institutional funders; 2) expand and strengthen its community outreach, relations, and partnerships; 3) evaluate current programming in order to implement an even more vibrant program plan; and 4) develop and implement a marketing and communications plan to build greater consciousness and engagement in our West Mt. Airy community.
The prosperous Executive Director must have a demonstrated passion for and knowledge of the function of a civic organization in fostering civil society in the 21st century and an knowledge of the important part that WMAN can play in supporting the social diversity and physical and natural environments of our community.
Reporting Relationships:
The Executive Director reports to the WMAN Board of Directors and manages paid employees and independent contractors as well as dedicated volunteers.
Primary Job responsibilities:
The Executive Director is an exempt employee with a flexible, 30-hour/week schedule. This is a remote, work-from-home position that requires evenings and/or weekend hours as needed to accommodate activities such as Board meetings, community events, and special activities. There is an opportunity for this to evolve into a full-time position. The primary tasks and responsibilities of the Executive Director include the following:
leadership abilities
Participate with the Board in developing and implementing a strategic plan.
Foster and expand effective, collaborative relationships among Board members, donors, sponsors, staff and volunteers, other civic organizations, and the community at-large.
Develop and direct the implementation of WMAN's marketing, communications, and fundraising strategies in close collaboration with the WMAN Board.

Financial Planning & Risk Management
Lead WMAN's fundraising efforts to diversify and expand funding to support both day-to-day operations and future growth including individual memberships, foundations, and corporate giving.
supervise the management of financial planning and forecasting, budgeting, and resource allocation; with the board treasurer, develop an annual budget and ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place and operating as intended.
Operational Planning & Management
supervise the planning, implementation, and evaluation of WMAN's programs and services; monitor program/service delivery to maintain or improve quality; ensure programs/services contribute to WMAN's mission and reflect the Board's priorities and budget.
Determine staffing and volunteer needs and recruit, select, and manage staff and volunteers with the expertise and personal attributes to help further WMAN's mission.

Communications
Work to develop and expand WMAN's visibility and recognition through public and media relations, print, and internet-located platforms, including website and Social Media.
Collaborate with the WMAN President and Executive VP as the primary spokespersons for WMAN; communicate with key stakeholders to keep them up to date regarding the accomplishments and needs of the organization.
Establish and maintain strong partnerships with community groups, the media, funders, and other agencies.
Qualifications
We are pursuing a dynamic and agile leader able to manage both day to day operations and to think strategically about the future of WMAN. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to WMAN's mission.

Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and minimum of 5-10 years of significant leadership abilities practice
Proven track record in prosperous fundraising
Effective planning/strategic expertise and practice
Strong communication expertise, with an capability to effectively represent WMAN to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders
Demonstrated capability to partner effectively with a Board of Directors
practice with and interest in effectively developing staff and volunteers
Preference will be given to local candidates
Competitive income:
$35,000 - $45,000 annually, located on background and practice. income review after six months.
