adjunct/Associate Professor – Hill Farm Research Station, LSU Agricultural Center

 

 

 

Rank and Nature of Position: adjunct/Associate Professor; twelve-month tenure track. The position is 80% Research and 20% Extension

Workplace: The position will be located at the Hill Farm Research Station, Homer, Louisiana. The incumbent will have a partial appointment with the LSU School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences at LSU main campus in Baton Rouge. An opportunity to mentor graduate students and participate in graduate education (M.S. and Ph.D.) will be provided.

 

Position Description:

Research: Design and implement an innovative, comprehensive research program that addresses the effectiveness and sustaincapability forest resource stewardship practices, including but not limited to forest establishment, intermediate forest stand improvement, and harvesting practices. The Hill Farm Research Station has approximately 300 acres of experimental forest, primarily of loblolly pine and upland hardwoods, to support this research.

Extension: Inform extension personnel of new discoveries in forest management and coordinate the dissemination of this information to forestry professionals of Louisiana and other states in the Western Gulf region. Disseminate research-located forest management innovations to university, federal, state, industry and private forestry professionals of the Western Gulf region through publications, workshops, conferences, presentations, field demonstrations, and Internet-located materials. Develop workshops and conferences that convey research-located forest management suggestions to forestry professionals of the Western Gulf region.

 

The incumbent should have the capability to work independently as well as the capability to work effectively as part of a team is essential.The prosperous candidate will actively participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary programs focusing on forest management. The incumbent must be willing to cooperate in research projects with other scientists in the LSU AgCenter, other land grant institutions, private industries, local governments, as well as state and federal agencies.Establishing partnerships with Cooperative Extension Service agents and specialists is critical to prosperously accomplish on-farm research and demonstrations.Faculty must exhibit strong communication expertise to present research findings to scientists, extension faculty, consultants, agribusiness representatives, and producers.Generating the appropriate publications for dissemination of information to the academic community and stakeholders in a timely manner is mandatory.Proficiency in the use of computer software and electronic technologies is required for data management and delivery of information.Extramural funding from competitive grant programs will be necessary to support research and outreach activities.Professional development, including participation in state, regional, national, and international societies is expected.

Qualification Requirements: Minimum of a Ph.D. in silviculture, applied ecology, ecophysiology, or related field required.Training and/or field practices in measuring tree growth and development in response to interactions among the environment, the soil, and the plant is desirable.
