Position:   Director of Education 
Reports To:  Vice President of Exhibit Design and Interpretation
Position Summary:  
The Director of Education provides strategic leadership abilities and supervises the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium’s educational mission. The Director of Education ensures strategic direction, leadership abilities, administration, and resources management for all educational programs. The incumbent is responsible for the development and management of all LLPA education relationships, programs, staff and budget. This includes the management of the education program administrators, the creation and assessment of educational programs, and the adherence to guidelines and policies. The Director of Education is assigned the highest level of analytical tasks, strategic planning, and relationship building in the Department.
Essential tasks and Job responsibilities:  
   » Provide executive level leadership abilities and accountcapability of the Education Team including professional staff development and implementation of high-quality training and evaluation programs. 
   » Collaborates with LLPA leadership abilities and external partners to develop educational relationships and programs that optimize performance goals towards accomplishing the mission of LLPA.
   » Display an outstanding work ethic and model excellence in presentation expertise, as well as provide support for Education team managers, presenters and program needs. 
   » Co-create, direct, and implement learning and education strategies and objectives within the education department on the development, coordination, supervision, and execution of all education programs to ensure alignment to the LLPA mission and established metrics.  
   » Direct a comprehensive impact evaluation plan to monitor effectiveness of education programs to create a learner-centered delivery system through standardized and integrated processes.
   » Collaborate with other LLPA leadership abilities and the academic community to promote, develop, and improve learning programs.  
   » Develop and Manage the annual education department budget. 
   » Initiate, develop, and supervise the publishing of educational materials (e.g. Teacher Guides, Visitor Guides, and Educational Brochures). 
   » supervises reporting, internally and externally, for all entities including seasonal, progress, and annual reports for all education program and departmental grants. 
   » Participate in fundraising, public relations and the promotion of the organization as needed to include establishing working relationships with Legislators and other business leaders outside of the organization. 
   » Represent and promote the Aquarium’s Education department and its programs, as needed, to include establishing working relationships with Legislators and other business leaders outside the organization. 
   » Perform other tasks as assigned. 
Education and Requirements :  
   » Bachelors degree in related field. Masters preferred.
   » 10+ years of practice in an education field, team management and program development/evaluation.  
   » practice in informal science education, thematic interpretation, STEM programming, education program design, implementation and evaluation. 
   » practice in conservation behavior change messaging and best practices. practice in audience/visitor research a plus. 
   » Management practice of diverse a large workforce. practice in entertainment/hospitality venues (zoos, aquariums, theme parks) preferred.
   » Exceptional organizational and leadership abilities expertise are required.  
   » Excellent time management, written and oral communication expertise. 
   » Strong computer software/multimedia expertise.
   » NAI certification preferred.
 
Physical Demands of the Job:   
This job requires periods of standing and walking as well as extended periods of sitting with data entry.  
Special Working Conditions:   
Job will primarily be in an office environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected and some holidays. Some travel may be required.
