Position Summary This is a ¾ -time (.75 FTE) Trades/Maintenance Worker 1 position at the Klamath Basin Research & Extension Center (KBREC) located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. This position performs general farm & landscape labor as well as supports research programs at KBREC and off-site locations by providing assistance to potato, field crops, and forages programs.

Position tasks 55%
General maintenance and landscaping station grounds. Typical tasks: shared responsibilities of repairs, maintenance and construction of facilities such as fences, buildings, and minor painting, roofing, and electrical and construction work, as needed; operation and maintenance/repair/service including routine checks of fuels and fluid levels of equipment such as farm machinery, irrigation equipment & systems, backpack or mechanical sprayers, motors, pumps, small tractors, lawn mowers, weed eaters, hedgers, leaf blowers, and chainsaws. Assist with setting up/cleaning up for station sponsored events and making sure that all grounds are presentable for visitors year-round. Other grounds maintenance tasks include, but are not limited to, snow removal from sidewalks, parking areas, lanes and roads, tree trimming, weed control, and leaf removal, as well as rodent control and abatement requiring traps and/or chemicals and disposal in research plots, lawns and other areas, as needed. Assist Farm Manager with keeping accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and other work performed.

Assist both project leaders & FRA's with the activities of a plant research facility. Assist in preparing plots; planting; crop irrigation which includes moving irrigation pipe to various field areas; herbicide and pesticide application; harvesting and packaging; mapping and labeling plots.

General Farm labor tasks. Typical tasks: operation of farm equipment to execute cultivation operations and residue management of various crops, field preparation, planting, irrigation, harvest, grading operations. General repair and minor fabrication to equipment including welding, cutting, electric, and other hand tools.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and practice.
Additional Required Qualifications General building maintenance practice in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding.

Previous tractor/farm equipment practice and/or certificate. practice with general farm machinery maintenance & repair.

Possess or capability to obtain an ATV certification within 30 days of hire and maintain while in the position.

Possess or capability to obtain forklift certification within 60 days of hire and maintain while in the position.
