Position Summary OSU-Cascades is seeking a Senior Art Director. This is a full-time 1.00 FTE, 12-month, professional faculty position. This position will be located in Bend, Oregon.

The Senior Art Director is responsible for enhancing and building the brand image of OSU-Cascades through creative visual communications. This position provides strategic visual brand direction and leads the development of creative concepts and materials to recruit students and engage alumni, donors, volunteers and the surrounding community with OSU-Cascades and advance OSU-Cascades' reputation locally, regionally and nationally. The Senior Art Director produces an array of projects across all media including print, environmental graphics, digital and social media, and the website, and ensures all communications pieces produced support the overall strategy and visual identity of OSU-Cascades and Oregon State University.

OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon, is a campus of Oregon State University. Established in 2001, the university currently enrolls more than 1,300 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs. The campus expanded to a four-year university in 2015, opened its 10-acre campus in fall 2016. The Oregon legislature approved additional funding in 2017 and 2018 for continued campus expansion, which is currently in progress. The campus has ambitious enrollment goals to reach 3,000 students and is engaged in building a culturally diverse and community-centric educational environment.

Position tasks 65% Visual Communication Direction

The Senior Art Director provides creative leadership abilities and strategy for OSU-Cascades visual communication efforts. The Senior Art Director works within the OSU brand and OSU-Cascades sub-brand, and develops strategic and creative visual communication concepts and materials. This includes work in all media including print, digital, social media, website, signage and environmental graphics. Visual communication oversight responsibilities include:
   » As a key member of the creative team, provides direction, guidance of creative strategy and development of campaigns, creative strategy and accompanying graphics.
   » Develops, implements, and evaluates short- and long-term goals, objectives and projects of visual communications and marketing.
   » Provides OSU visual brand guidance and leadership abilities to OSU-Cascades communicators, ensuring consistency all over all communication materials produced by the university campus.
   » Researches, analyzes and advises leadership abilities on emerging art, design and advertising trends.
   » Coordinates design across all media, such as print, digital and website, to ensure the graphic style of OSU-Cascades follows OSU brand and OSU-Cascades sub-brand guidelines consistently.
   » Consults with departments and faculty members on project needs and presents design concepts.
   » supervises the day-to-day project management, design and production for all visual communication projects produced by the department.
   » Writes and approves print and digital production specifications.
   » Acquires bids from production vendors, and ensures that printers and vendors meet quality standards and deadlines.
   » Develops, manages and reports on budget including consulting with leadership abilities on budget resources and status updates.
   » Hires, directs and monitors free-lance photographers, illustrators, and print and web designers, as needed.
   » Provides instruction and coaching on graphic design, OSU and OSU-Cascades graphic identity, visual style, and production expertise to student interns and student employees of the department, and others as needed.

25% Website Customization and Management

Acts as visual creative champion for the OSU-Cascades website, ensuring the quality of the website's aesthetics and uscapability, and that Information technology meets its strategic goals.
   » Customizes CSS and website templates to maximize the visual effectiveness of the website in line with OSU and OSU-Cascades brand guidelines, uscapability standards and accessibility standards.
   » Identifies, monitors and assesses high-traffic and strategic web pages that can benefit from custom design or functionality. Customizes these key individual webpages, or builds new pages, for maximum effectiveness to meet page and campaign goals.
   » Evaluates, designs and implements website uscapability and user interface standards.
   » Customizes website using plug-ins, off-the-shelf or customized code. Work with university or external website developers when necessary.
10% Other tasks

   » Provides mentorship, supervision and support for staff, student workers, interns and/or independent contractors. Provides training and direction to ensure appropriate support, clarity of expectations and accountcapability.
   » Participate in professional development.
   » Other tasks as assigned.

Minimum/Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Architecture, Interactive Design, Web Development or a related field.

5 years of practice in graphic design.

3 years of practice in website design.

practice working with HTML/CSS.

knowledge the function of design in strategic communications. Strong conceptual design expertise demonstrated by a portfolio of high-quality work.

knowledge of how written content interacts with design elements to convey meaning, especially the use of headlines and captions.

Excellent project management expertise, demonstrated by consistent on-time delivery of projects.

practice creating graphics or marketing materials for social media, or a strong personal interest and mastery of social media platforms.

Advanced practice in Adobe Creative Suite.

Strong production expertise and knowledge of printing processes.

Working knowledge of content management systems like Drupal and Wordpress.

Demonstrated capability to work effectively as part of a creative team.

capability to work with a wide variety of clients, excellent interpersonal and communication expertise, excellent time management expertise and the capability to manage multiple projects.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications practice with UI/UX design.

practice instructing and training in graphic design, online marketing or front-end development.

practice with video editing or animation software.

practice with back-end development or coding using Javascript or similar.

practice working in higher education.
