Zoofari Parks LLCCorporate Animal Collection ManagerListing description Corporate Animal Collection Manager Oversight of the animal collection at our 3 (soon to be 4) parks, with the possibility of additional parks added in ensuing years. Working with both private and public facilities, this position will be tasked with ensuring a well-managed corporate animal collection, including breeding programs, record-keeping and a vision for future growth. Works with, and reports directly to, CEO in a senior level management position. This is mainly an office-located, numbers and data driven job. Having a professional network within the established zoo community is very beneficial. This position will manage the animal collections for our various parks: » Virginia Safari Park, a 180-acre drive through zoo and breeding center (set on 500 acres) in Natural Bridge VA. Maintains an inventory of 1,000+ specimens comprised of breeding groups of hoofed stock including white rhinos, giraffe, bongo, and others like cheetahs, African penguins, Rueppells vultures, giant anteaters, Aldabra and Radiated tortoises. » Gulf Breeze Zoo, a 50-acre zoo (set on 87 acres) located near Pensacola FL. Collection consists of a wide variety of primates, including lowland gorillas, breeding orangutans and siamangs, giant anteaters, large felines and bears, hoofed stock including giraffe, white rhinos, Nile and imported pygmy hippos. » Alabama Safari Park, a 350-acre drive-through zoo and breeding center near Montgomery AL. Maintains a wide variety of exotic hoofed stock, including giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, banteng, Nile and red lechwe, Arabian oryx, and many others. » Texas Safari Park, 30 miles east of Dallas TX and our newest park in production. 900-acres due to open in 2023. Responsibilities will include: » Oversight of a dynamic animal collection numbering around 3,500+ specimens at all facilities via periodic on-site visits, and contact with General Curators of the facilities. » Oversight of Corporate Registrar, which is a direct-report to this position. » Insuring a vibrant and ever-growing collection; one that serves the purposes of our collection and conservation management vision coupled with our attractions-located business model. » Implementing and enacting the various breeding programs companywide. We are a production-located company. » capability to maintain and update licenses, procedures and data for international imports. » Working with our facility General Curators in conjunction with senior facility staff. » Managing herds, including setting & tracking breeding schedules in conjunction with GCs and company policies and direction. » Following up on breeding recommendations with facility staff » Acquisition and surplus management via monthly correspondence with public and private facilities nationwide/internationally as required. » Review, maintaining and updating monthly animal collection records Requirements: » A degree in animal science or related field of study » 10+ years working full-time in a zoological setting with a proven record of advancement. » Positive and professional demeanor, conduct and appearance. » A broad range of professional contacts within the zoo community. » Previous collection management practice, either at exhibit, zone or species level. » practice with a wide variety of animals » capability to work with staff members at our various parks forming a cohesive working unit. » Working expertise of ZIMS / Species 360 » Bonus: Although not necessary, the capability to transport collection specimens from park-to-park as/if needed using company equipment is valuable. We keep professional grade equipment for all animal transport on hand and located at each facility. We are equipped to transport every species within the collection. Extras: » We require a strong work ethic, good physical condition and great mobility. » Although this is mainly office work, Information technology is also a boots-on-the-ground position, whereby visually inspecting the collection and working with the staff at times will be required and essential. » We have strict personal appearance requirements and maintain a non-smoking work place. » ***Look at the collection you will be managing (either at zoofariparks.com website or for the individual parks) before applying. Information technology is very diverse. While we do expect some on-the-job training, a broad range of practice coming in to the job will be expected.
