VPM is a public media organization serving Central Virginia and Shenandoah Valley. The VPM News team produces award-winning journalism for our NPR station in Richmond and distribution across our digital channels to over 2 million people in VPM's coverage area. As an independent, non-profit service, we strive to create and serve a more informed public.
Are you a visual storyteller looking to join a team of journalists to produce a weekly multimedia news program covering state-wide news, public policy, justice, and arts and culture? VPM is seeking an practiced and creative videographer/editor who is skilled in the craft of visual storytelling to shoot, edit, and produce news and feature stories and finalize the weekly program for broadcast. The videographer/editor should be comfortable with all aspects of video production, including lighting, sound, music, graphics, visuals, and interviewing and will be responsible for shooting original footage and using archival footage to tell compelling stories.
The videographer/editor will join our team of journalists and assist with all areas of newscast production as a valued member of our editorial team. The ideal candidate will have strong journalistic standards, practice with broadcast operations, and expertise of local and regional politics, current events, as well as Virginia history and culture. this function is part of the VPM News team and reports to the Senior Producer.

Responsibilities
• Shoots footage in studio and in the field across Virginia and surrounding areas.
• Produces stories independently and supports reporters and producers in the field.
• Interviews characters and shoots compelling visuals and b-roll to tell their story.
• Edits footage from various sources and shoots to create a cohesive story.
• Evaluates edited footage and ensures the story reflects the script and meets the narrative agenda of the producer or reporter.
• Creates original news stories, features, online features, interstitials, breaks, studio video wall graphics, clip reels, and mid-level effects.
• Edits and stacks the show, prepares graphics and animations, assists with day of air.
• Ensures all edits appear seamless and natural and help the story flow.
• Discusses project timeline, narrative structure, story goals and more with the producers all over production process.
• Manages shared storage material in Sony Ci digital asset management.
• Understands third-party plug-ins, multiple file formats and conversion techniques.
• Works within template graphics packages to update and deliver a finished error-free animation or graphic product.
• Follows established procedures to package programs, making sure the final product meets all PBS Technical Operations Specifications.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in film, video production, communications, journalism, digital media, or related field of study is preferred, or equivalent practice.
• At least four years of shooting and editing practice in a public or commercial television news production or post production facility.
• expertise of journalistic standards and ethics with sound judgement and a commitment to objectivity, balance, and fairness.
• practice producing broadcast, video, and multimedia content with strong attention-to-detail, fact checking, and writing.
• Facilitates project timeline, narrative structure, story goals and more with the producers all over production process.
• Working expertise of test equipment (digital waveform and audio monitors) to make final videos conform to broadcast specs.
• expertise of production equipment, including studio cameras, portable video and DSLR cameras, Gimbals, Jibs, audio, and lighting gear.
• expertise of Virginia politics, history, and personalities preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication expertise and the capability to clearly communicate solutions that foster a culture of teamwork.
• Excellent time and project management expertise performing well under pressure, multi-tasking, and meeting deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Adobe Suite Tools, newsroom management and production software.
• Flexible to work unusual hours in remote locations, as needed.
