Position Summary The Department of Applied Economics invites applications for a part-time (0.75 FTE), 12-month, Tenure Track adjunct Professor position.

The Department of Applied Economics at Oregon State University seeks to hire a faculty member at the rank of adjunct Professor, tenure-track, to engage in extension/outreach, research and teaching in the area of regional and community economic development including applied policy analysis. This is a tenure-track position with significant responsibility in developing an integrated extension and research program to address sustainable development using economic foundations, quantitative methods and data-informed analytics. The incumbent will build working relationships across campus and the state to support applied research and policy related to regional and community economic development in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Outreach issues of interest could include but are not limited to, local and state-level economic policies impacting multiple sectors (farming, food production and delivery, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy) and demographics, sustainable development relating to infrastructure and innovation needs, and impact assessment for public investments at the regional and county levels. The incumbent will also teach in the undergraduate or graduate programs offered through the Department of Applied Economics and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Opportunities for engagement with interdisciplinary teaching, research and mentorship also exist through the CAS sustaincapability efforts.

The Department of Applied Economics, https://appliedecon.oregonstate.edu/ located within the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University, is seeking to fill 1 tenure-track faculty position at the rank of adjunct Professor with a start date of September 2022. The focus areas for the faculty position is regional/community economic development. This position affords the opportunity to integrate an extension/outreach emphasis with applied research and teaching and build working relationships with other faculty across campus and across the state. The position is covering a broad range of issues significant to Oregon's urban and rural communities and innovative agricultural and food industries and are supported with continuing support from the Oregon cooperative extension service, the CAS experiment station research, and university teaching resources.

The Applied Economics Department offers a Bachelor of Science in both Agricultural and Food Business Management and Environmental Economics and Policy, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. These degrees open doors for students to exciting careers in agricultural business management, agricultural policy, natural resource and environmental management, marine resources, international trade and development, and environmental law. Students lgain the analytical expertise and quantitative tools that will enable them to be leaders in both private and public sectors, and to provide information to support community and business vitality, local decision-making, and policy design in Oregon and beyond.

Position tasks 50% Extension and engagement
Engage in extension/outreach in the area of regional and community economic development including applied policy analysis

Develop an integrated extension, outreach program to address sustainable development

Build working relationships across campus and the state to support applied scholarship and outreach related to regional and community economic development in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

Issues of interest could include but are not limited to, local and state-level economic policies impacting multiple sectors and demographics and sustainable development relating to infrastructure and innovation needs, and impact assessment for public investments at the regional and county levels.

Pursue grants and contracts to support extension and outreach program

30% Research and Scholarship
Develop a nationally recognized research program in the general area of regional and community economic development and applied policy analysis with a focus on sustainable development issues and data-informed analytics and methods

Collaborate with other AEC and CAS faculty on cross-disciplinary research and scholarship

Pursue grants and contracts to support the research program including graduate students as appropriate

Opportunities for engagement with interdisciplinary teaching, research and mentorship also exist through the CAS sustaincapability efforts.

15% Teaching and Advising
Contribute to the departmental teaching by being primary instructor for one 10-week quarter classes per year in the undergraduate and/or graduate programs of the Department Applied Economics,

Develop course content and participate in general departmental curricula development and

Advise and mentor students interested in applied economics, regional and community development and/or applied policy analysis

5% Service
Service activities will support Dept, College, and University committees

Contribute to the outreach efforts of the department all over the state

Engage with professional and public sector organizations as significant to the position focus

Minimum/Required Qualifications PhD in Applied Economics, Economics, or related field, by September 2022 or start date.

Significant potential or demonstrated capability to develop an extension/outreach program in the area of regional and community economic development that supports issues of importance to Oregon and the region.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Significant potential or demonstrated capability to provide high impact reports, presentations, and peer reviewed journal articles.

Significant potential to contribute to teaching needs in applied economics.

Excellent collaboration and written and verbal communication expertise.
