APMG's primary operating divisions Minnesota Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio and American Public Media offer multi-regional FM broadcast channels, website, mobile and social media channels, live events, national content creation and distribution. Together, these divisions operate 49public radio stations and 42 translators serving regional audiences in eight states from Minnesota, Michigan and the Upper Midwest to Idaho and California; distribute a portfolio of more than twenty national programs reaching nearly 20MM listeners weekly through 1,000 radio stations; serve rapidly growing audiences on digital, social and mobile platforms; and produce anincreasing and diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, mental health, water, early brain development, business and investigative journalism.
Your function:
MPR News is seeking a seasoned leader for our flagship regional magazine programs, Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
The ideal candidate has a passion for live radio, local news, building audiences, and leading teams. You can balance big, long-term projects with the day-to-day news coverage.
You will direct the everyday work of a team of producers, pitch and produce interviews and debriefs, collaborate with editors and reporters, and help craft the digital transformation of our broadcast programming.
MPR News remains committed to local broadcasts and to providing a space for Minnesotans to gather and share their stories. We're looking for a producer who is devoted to elevating local voices and local stories. You understand the urgent need to practice more equitable journalism and are committed to collaborating with the entire newsroom to do so.

Beside directing everyday workloads for your team, you will supervise implementation of their professional development plans crafted by the adjunct program director.
Compensation Range: $33.27 - $51.92/hour. Exact hourly rate determined by practice and education related to the function, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Position Job responsibilities:
   » Plan long-term goals for programs, alongside the hosts.
   » Direct and supervise the work of other producers.
   » Maintain highest journalistic standards across all platforms.
   » Track diversity of sources and hold staff accountable to sourcing goals.
   » Communicate the vision of the program to the staff and collaborate with other newsroom colleagues to elevate MPR News editorial goals.
   » Ensure the program's overall tone and balance.
   » Consistently assess the program's content and priorities.
   » Supervise editing and post production.
   » supervise social media plan for the programs.
   » Lead staff by:
   » Creating a culture of constructive performance coaching and regular, on-going feedback.
   » Encouraging creativity, invention and productivity.
   » Embracing diversity in staff make-up.
   » Creating and encouraging individualized development opportunities and plans for staff.
   » Originate story ideas for the programs and produce segments.
   » Occasionally line produce live broadcast of the programs.
   » Develop and produce special programs and remote broadcasts.
   » Collaborate with Membership department during fund drives.
   » supervise archiving of the programs.
   » supervise production of promos.
   » Other tasks as assigned.
Required Education and practice:
   » Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work practice
   » Minimum of 7 years' practice in fast-paced, idea-driven broadcast journalism environments
   » practice working with on air talent
   » 3-5 years' practice managing a show or major journalistic endeavor
Required expertise, expertise and Abilities:
   » capability to produce programs that meet MPR News standards
   » Proven capability to contribute to a positive, diverse, creative, high-performance culture
   » capability to advocate for program/resources/staff
   » managery expertise and capability to recruit, coach and develop talent
   » leadership abilities and personnel expertise and capability to inspire and lead the staff
   » capability to manage change
   » capability to evaluate content/quality/sound and act decisively with sound management
   » expertise of new media applications for digital distribution, audience engagement and community networking
Preferred expertise and practice:
   » Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Hmong or other languages commonly used in Minnesota
   » 3-5 years practice managing people
   » Broadcast control room practice
