Job Offer: Coastal Reporter:WRKF & WWNO

Job description:

Coastal Reporter

Listing description
Coastal Desk Reporters
WRKF Baton Rouge Public Radio WWNO New Orleans Public Radio and are looking for two practiced reporters to anchor our Coastal Desk and continue our award-winning coverage of Louisiana's environmental issues.

In South Louisiana - and along its vulnerable coastline - the effects of climate change are playing out in real-time: from increasingly powerful storms to the slow but steady loss of land from rising sea-levels. These positions will report on some of the most important environmental stories of our time. We're hoping to put one of the reporter positions in Houma and the other in either New Orleans or Baton Rouge.

Position Summary: The Coastal Desk Reporters will tackle the science, economics, politics and cultural issues of coastal dynamics in Southeast Louisiana in their coverage. This includes reporting developments for everyday news, as well as larger trends, history, projections and context for feature stories and series. The reporters will file two versions of their stories: an online story for WWNO.org/WRKF.org and a script for radio. You should also be available for live and pre-recorded on-air interviews.
The reporters stay up-to-date on regional stories, as well as national stories that may be localized. You research, cultivate sources, pitch, produce and upload stories for everyday newscasts, as well as longer features.

Both reporters should also be digitally savvy. One of your main weekly responsibilities will be to put together a Coastal Desk newsletter, sent out in partnership with The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate. You use social media to promote stories and advance your coastal beats, are capable of taking photos for online stories and can shoot video.

You'll work with the News Director and other staff to plan long-term coverage for WRKF and WWNO. Occasionally, you will make public appearances to represent WRKF and WWNO, take part in topical panel discussions and do some on-air fundraising.

But most importantly, these reporters are passionate about reporting impactful environmental stories that cover our diverse communities in southeast Louisiana. Here's what we're looking for:
