Organizational Unit Overview The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center which is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the principal teaching hospital for ECU. We treat more than 120,000 patients per year in a state-of-the-art ED at Vidant Medical Center. VMC is a 960+ bed level 1 trauma center and regional stroke center.

In the Department of Emergency Medicine, our mission is to provide and continue to improve the quality of health care services whenever and wherever the patient needs them; to promote scholarly activity regarding emergency health care through education and research; and to maximize the accumulation and utilization of resources in order to accomplish service and scholarly activities, and promote the wellness and satisfaction of department members.

Our tertiary care catchment area includes more than 1.5 million people in eastern North Carolina, many of whom arrive via our integrated mobile critical care and air medical service. Our children's ED opened in July 2012 and the children's hospital opened in June 2013. In September of 2016, we extended our coverage to begin providing professional medical services at The Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head, North Carolina.

Our current faculty members possess diverse interests and skills leading to broad state and national-level involvement. The emergency medicine residency is well-established and includes 12 EM and 2 EM/IM residents per year.

Job tasks The Department of Emergency Medicine at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine seeks board certified or board eligible emergency physicians or pediatric emergency physicians for tenure-track or fixed-term faculty positions at the rank/title of adjunct professor or higher, depending on qualifications.

Depending on interests and qualifications, the physician will provide clinical care at the Vidant Medical Center Emergency Department, Children's Emergency Department, and/or Vidant Beaufort Hospital located in Washington, NC and The Outer Banks Hospital located in Nags Head, NC.

Minimum Education/practice MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution required. Outstanding clinical and teaching skills to qualify for appropriate privileges from ECU Physicians and Vidant Medical Center, and/or Vidant Beaufort Hospital and The Outer Banks Hospital are required.

The prosperous candidate will have a track record as an exceptional educator, possess excellent clinical skills, and be board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Physicians must be able to obtain a license to practice medicine in North Carolina; be granted medical staff privileges at Vidant Medical Center, and/or Vidant Beaufort Hospital and The Outer Banks Hospital; be approved to practice medicine through ECU Physicians, and receive medical licapability insurance coverage through the BSOM carrier.
