Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Operating System/Network Analyst position for the College of Business at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position works with the college's Systems Administrator and other Operating System/Network Analysts (OS/NAs) to support the general Information technology needs of students, faculty and staff. The position provides a dedicated focus on providing excellent customer service to students, faculty and staff. The position maintains the inventory of personal computers, laptops, printers, servers, switches, support equipment, classroom equipment and technology infrastructure needed to support mission of the college. The position is also responsible for delivering quality performance for directory services, anti-virus, directory permissions, file storage, and printer management services. This position assists in supervising student workers providing helpdesk support to the College of Business computing lab and students, faculty and staff. This responsibility includes supporting onboarding and development of student workers, providing initial orientation and advanced training, scheduling their work, and monitoring performance.

Along with technical support this position is also responsible for system documentation and project planning. This position must be able to communicate effectively to faculty, staff and students orally and in writing. The position must be able to work well in a team environment. The position works closely with the other OS/NAs, the Systems Administrator and academic faculty to develop and deliver technology solutions for academic classes. The work is intellectual and varied. This position will work closely with faculty to ensure that students receive effective training on current technology.

Position tasks 45% - Operating systems administration and network analysis
   » Support the College's missions of teaching, research and service by managing, trouble shooting, resolving and preventing routine problems, securing, supporting and upgrading the systems and technology infrastructure investments of the college including desktop computers, laptops, VMware, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) thin-clients, Active Directory, file storage, print management and web hosting.
   » Assist with implementing critical maintenance fixes and for isolating and correcting malfunctions.
   » Maintain current inventory of COB hardware and software used by faculty/staff and deployed in the classrooms and computer labs.
   » Develop skills in supporting the current and future audio-visual and technology needs of the college as Information technology transitions to new facilities and new programs.
   » Collaborate with the OS/NAs and Systems Administrator to provide technical support to academic faculty in the implementation of new technologies for research excellence and educating profession-ready graduates.
   » Engage in the integration of technology as a value-added improvement for existing courses.
   » Implement plans for fully integrated systems, including operating systems, network systems, database systems and applications;
   » Follow plans, schedules, and requirements for the installation and maintenance of new and/or revised software;
   » Install, configure, and tune operating systems software for optimal performance;
   » Integrate operating systems with other systems;
   » Support multimedia components for lab or classroom use
   » Support lab operations and projects
   » Utilize software tools and scripts to automate day to day computer management;
   » Planning and providing desktop support for 150+ computer labs PCs/VDI thin clients + project room PCs
35% - Technical support to faculty, staff and students for technology-located systems
   » Respond to requests from faculty, staff and students for routine training and support.
   » Utilize project management tools and customer service focus in supporting faculty, staff and students:
   » User consultation - assist users to develop or use applications and software packages and their features
   » May provide basic user training, lab/equipment orientations and demonstrations, and direct users to self-guided tutorials on equipment, applications, databases, and related systems
   » Support multimedia components for faculty for research lab or classroom use - including superviseing student workers supporting this activity
   » Ensure lab, studio, classroom, and/or stand-alone information systems are fully operational and secure
   » Analyze and monitor system performance and usage
   » Instructional/multimedia development - assist with integrating technical tools and applications into faculty instructional delivery and student projects 10% - Business process improvement analysis and information technology service management
   » Support the College's missions of teaching, research and service by collaborating with Systems Administrator and other OS/NAs to review business processes and identify potential solutions to improve the value of information and technology.
   » Utilize Information technology Service Management practices to ensure high quality service to customers.
   » Contribute to the development of plans, schedules, and requirements for the installation and maintenance of new and/or revised technology-located capabilities;
   » Contribute to assessments of the impact of new software on existing systems and users and collaborate with others to develop modification plans as needed.
   » Manage trouble tickets through Information technology service management system and escalate complex issues for higher level resolution as needed. 10% - Professional development and miscellaneous tasks
   » Maintain knowledge of current technology developments significant to educational/business environment.
   » Mentor student lab adjuncts with their technology knowledge, skills and abilities to become profession-ready at graduation.
   » Perform tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations in support of the mission of the College of Business.
Minimum Qualifications
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or practice.
