Organizational Unit Overview
It is the mission of the Department of Internal Medicine, East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in internal medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, Information technology is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to individuals of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific expertise through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.
The Department of Medicine is a very complex organization. Our specialties include allergy, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general internal medicine, hematology, immunology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology, oncology, pulmonary medicine and rheumatology. The Department of Internal Medicine is comprised of ten divisions with over 85 full time faculty and 150 support staff members. Each of the divisions has its own specialty clinic. Administration of the department provides a management structure that coordinates and supports the activities of a large, complex and heterogeneous organization. The Department of Medicine is a primary contributor to the mission of East Carolina University School of Medicine, which is to provide health care for the citizens of eastern North Carolina, educate primary care physicians to meet the health care needs and to make medical education available to minority and underprivileged people.
Job tasks
The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension seeks a General Nephrologist to join our team at East Carolina University Physicians, Brody School of Medicine, at the rank/title of Clinical adjunct, Clinical Associate, Clinical Professor, adjunct Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, with tenure track or fixed-term appointment.
The Division is actively involved in the training/teaching of medical students, residents, and nephrology fellows. This position will be involved in clinical activities in the outpatient clinic and at Vidant Medical Center (VMC).
Research opportunities exist. VMC is the tertiary referral center for Vidant Health, a regional health center network serving 29 counties.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine affiliates with VMC. VMC is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
Minimum Education/practice
MD from an appropriately accredited institution required and full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in NC.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Board eligible/certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
