WFSU Public Media is NPR and PBS for North Florida and South Georgia. Our station has an exciting opportunity available in its award-winning newsroom for a passionate storyteller who isn't afraid to ask tough questions, dig into public records, and hold government accountable.
As a government/public affairs reporter, the candidate will have an knowledge of how local and state governments operate, can research and request public records including court documents, and be able to come up with novel story ideas that focus on issues under-reported or represented. They know how to find sources and can jump from state to local without a problem, can maneuver in breaking news situations and respond to tight deadlines.

Job responsibilities:
   » Primarily responsible for coverage of the Tallahassee City Commission and Leon County Commission and corresponding government agencies.
   » Will track court cases of regional/state importance.
   » Research story ideas/sources
   » Report, write, edit, and produce stories for broadcast and digital as needed
   » Assist with the distribution of information across our multiple social media platforms-design and cater content to the specific medium.
   » Can respond to everyday reporting deadlines
   » capability to jump into state political issues when necessary
Preferred Appropriate qualifications:
   » capability to work under tight deadlines and pressure
   » practice in audio/digital and video production
   » practice in writing and copy editing
   » practice producing long-form, narrative journalism in broadcast and digital
   » Demonstrated capability to use Florida's public record laws to aid in and further reporting
   » capability to adapt the material to fit a variety of platforms-social and digital.
   » Preferred majors: Communications, English, Editing Writing and Media, Journalism, Marketing and Advertising, Filmmaking
