Envisioned and created by a dedicated group of volunteers, the Luminarians, The Luminary Loppet is a non-competitive candlelit ski, snowshoe, walk on Lake of the Isles surrounded by an illuminated ice landscape. Accompanied by fire pits and hot chocolate stops, the Luminary Loppet is an iconic Minneapolis winter event centered on the celebration of light and ice. For the last 15 years, the Luminarians have conceived of and executed an array of challenging ice features that create the annual visual ice spectacle.While the Luminary Loppet is a visual winter spectacle, the months of work to build all of the ice features is a largely invisible but key component to the success of the event. Documentation of the creation process, freezing and hatching, of the ice features to the extent that they would create an interesting story is of importance to this story. The Organization: The Loppet Foundation is a non-profit whose mission is to create a shared passion for year-round outdoor adventure in the Minneapolis area, focusing on underserved youth and families. Timeline: Luminary planning and event preparation takes place from November 2021 through the event and clean up in February of 2022. Luminary Loppet event takes place on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Qualifications or requirementsThe Loppet Foundation seeks a documentary artist who is committed to storytelling through video captured in an outdoor winter environment.Create a short length documentary video describing the history, back story, and creative process that culminates in the Luminary Loppet event. Work in collaboration with the Luminary team during the freezing and hatching phase to capture the ice feature creation process. The Documentary Video Artist is responsible for providing their own equipment to complete the video project. Be available to film during the Luminary planning and event preparation which take place from November 2021 through the event and clean up in February of 2022. The Luminary Loppet event takes place on Saturday, February 5, 2022.
