Position Summary The Public Information adjunct is a full-time (1.0), 12-month position for Oregon State University's (OSU) Extension Communications unit, reporting to the adjunct to the Director/Office Manager.

This individual's primary function is to assist with coordinating digital content (primarily in English and Spanish) that supports consciousness of information, skills and impact of the Division of Extension and Engagement and the OSU Extension Service and help implement strategies to engage public and internal audiences with that content. The person in this position has in-depth and up-to-date expertise of all content produced by the communications team. This content is used and managed across a variety of digital platforms, including websites, digital marketing tools, online databases and web-located collaboration software.

The Public Information adjunct helps support the team's integrated communication and marketing efforts, including web content strategy, marketing, publishing, public information, and administrative support functions. The person in this position supports projects and processes, including:

Content lifecycle (incoming requests, periodic review/revision, reporting)
Digital content publishing and maintenance (web-located publications, e-newsletters and related analysis)
OSU Extension's Ask an Expert/Ask Extension online service
This individual serves as a resource for colleagues on using the unit-supported content management systems and tools for digital publishing and engagement.

This work is done in collaboration with unit colleagues, the Division's technology and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion units, OSU Extension employees and university communications colleagues.

The Extension Communications unit supports the strategic communication needs of the Division of Extension and Engagement and the statewide OSU Extension Service. The team collaborates with division leadership abilities and colleagues to create educational, engaging and brand-aligned communications. This includes educational publishing, news and media relations, issues and impact communications, marketing and branding, visual design and multimedia, and web and content strategy efforts. The team also offers advice, consultation and training for OSU Extension employees in these areas. In addition, the team provides collaborative leadership abilities for innovative and effective use of educational and communication technologies that support access to and engagement with OSU Extension.

Position tasks The Public Information adjunct embeds the commitment of OSU Extension Service to a collaborative and inclusive community in all interactions and tasks performed. As a team member in the Extension Communications Unit, this individual helps ensure that OSU Extension's educational, informational and promotional communications content and efforts serve diverse populations, including those that have been historically marginalized and excluded from participation. Our communication efforts create opportunities for strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion, and these activities will be included in annual goals, plans of work and summaries of accomplishments.

35% - Digital communications publishing and maintenance


- Under the direction of Extension's content strategist and unit team leaders, helps ensure published content on Extension, Division and intranet websites is regularly maintained for quality and accuracy, including assisting with minor edits, formatting and tagging
- Assists with posting web-located Extension Catalog content
- Assists the content strategist and marketing manager to compile, edit, create and distribute weekly and monthly internal division e-newsletters.

20% - Digital engagement and content marketing


- Participates on teams that identify and implement ways to continually improve the user practice and engagement in Extension's digital platforms
- Participates in content development, strategy and promotion team meetings to help evaluate and decide when, where and how to publish and deliver content for maximum value to the end user
- Under the direction of Extension's content strategist, helps monitor, update, and curate OSU Extension website topic and landing pages
- Supports and helps promote best practices for content coordination, webpage curation, social media and newsletters across OSU Extension, including participation in communities of practice in these areas

20% - Content lifecycle support


- Monitors project requests and maintains status updates in project management tool
- Schedules meetings with team members to discuss incoming requests and special projects
- Helps coordinate review/revision tracking, communication and reporting for Extension publications and website content
- Assists with coordinating the peer-review process for Extension publications produced by the Pacific Northwest publishing cooperative (OSU, WSU and University of Idaho)
- Archives publications and Extension website content per standard protocols; serves as unit liaison to OSU Libraries digital repository, ScholarsARchive@OSU

15% - Outreach and coordination


Helps support OSU Extension's Ask an Expert/Ask Extension online system. This includes:

- Coordinating with a team of question monitors to direct questions from the public to appropriate OSU Extension experts
- Monitors trends and response rates of incoming questions from the public, and reports findings for actionable items to unit colleagues and division leadership abilities. This work allows Extension to proactively respond to emerging issues and push out significant content at the right time.
- Maintains a working expertise of OSU Extension experts' areas of skills to facilitate question assignment
- In partnership with Extension's technology team, helps train OSU Extension monitors and experts how to effectively use the system
Provides reports and trend analysis on content at team meetings.

Contributes to training and documentation to improve content governance and quality.

Helps monitor, respond to, and refer web content feedback and questions from the public.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of practice gathering information, writing and/or producing materials, and presenting materials to selected audiences; OR A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, or a closely-related field.
Additional Required Qualifications practice publishing digital content, such as for websites, social media or digital newsletter platforms.

Proficiency with software tools for email, word processing, spreadsheets, file sharing and collaboration.

Strong verbal and written communications skills.

Strong attention to detail, such as but not limited to proofreading.
