Organizational Unit Overview Campus Operations is a broad diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the North Carolina system. Campus Operations is a major division of Administration and Finance with approximately 500 employees and a budget in excess of $30 million. The university is comprised of approximately 6.0 million square feet of facilities located on 960 acres with $700 million in physical assets. Facilities Services is a part of the broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance / Campus Operations that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University

Job tasks The Facility Maintenance Technician - Mechanical Trades concept provides career tracks included but not limited to Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding that perform a variety of tasks ranging from routine and unskilled to highly skilled. Positions apply methods and general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop expertise in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to trade. Some positions primarily perform trades work in a specialty area while others will perform tasks requiring specialized expertise in multiple trades. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components requiring the application of expertise in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety. Positions may serve as lead technician and/or crew leader, directing the work of others. Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, license, educational level, and/or practice criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.

Minimum Education/practice High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to execute the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.

Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: practice in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education Inspecting and maintaining high pressure steam distribution systems, operating large boiler systems in the 500 HP to 1000 HP range, sampling and testing of boiler feed-water systems, pipe fitting and welding, using computers (Windows, Control systems and water chemistry testing).

License or Certification required by the Department NC Drivers License
