Position Summary The Center for Applied Systems & Software (CASS) is seeking a Systems Development Engineer. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position to hire and train undergraduate students to develop the necessary expertise to provide quality software solutions to deal with real world problems for CASS customers.

The Systems Development Engineer leads student software development teams to provide custom software solutions that support state agencies, units within OSU, other clients, and industries. Therefore, this position requires an interest in doing on-the-job training of the next generation of software engineers, while delivering quality solutions to a wide variety of customers. The CASS Software Development Group (SDG) is the pride of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) efforts to provide quality experiential learning opportunities to undergrad students.

Position tasks 50% - Student Mentorship and Supervision:
   » Mentor and supervise teams of CASS SoftDev student workers, including pair programming and providing feedback; helping with problem resolution; planning and scheduling work; setting priorities; monitoring work product quality; and recruiting, hiring, and training new students.
   » Provide student workers' formal reviews, compensates, raises and discipline as appropriate; evaluate and respond to student worker concerns; and otherwise support student learning and professional development.
30% - Systems Analysis and Development:
   » Responsible for the delivery of enterprise solutions to CASS customers within their project scope, schedule, and budget. These solutions typically involve using state-of-the-art development tools and technologies as well as assisting in business process analysis and improvement.
   » Perform technical writing when necessary, including documenting architecture, business process models, requirements, solution options, and mockups with the support of SoftDev staff and student analysts. 10% - Project and Client Management:
   » Responsible for managing project work day-to-day which includes leading standups, managing tasks using agile planning tools, forecasting student resource levels, providing project estimates, communicating with customers about project status and escalating issues as needed.
   » Assist in maintaining customer relationships. 5% - Operations & Problem Resolution:
   » Assist in the deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting of production applications developed by CASS that are managed directly within the cloud or within the OSU Information technology infrastructure.
   » Troubleshoot and resolve issues in the SoftDev development environment. 5% - Professional Development:
   » Stay up to date on current technologies and best practices for software development.
   » Keep abreast of modern tools, technologies, and practices to stay proficient within the software engineering discipline.
   » Some funds are available to support professional development activities.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
   » Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and practice.
   » Demonstrable work practice building solutions using current software development tools and technologies.
   » Demonstrable practice and commitment to working with a diverse group of people within a team environment.
   » Demonstrable practice in prosperously mentoring or leading others.
   » Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
