Summary:
Under the guidance of the Director of Public Engagement and the direct supervision of the Public Engagement Manager, the Gallery Learning practice Coordinator plans, creates, implements, and supervises the everyday operation of informal educational programming for the Global Journey and Discovery Galleries of the Museum.

Essential Functions:
Uphold the highest quality of the guest practice through equitable, respectful interactions
that meet the unique needs of each guest and team member
Cultivate and nurture relationships with community members, institutions, and organizations to build science-located partnerships that promote informal programing initiatives, science communication to the general public, and expand Museum audiences
Analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate the informal education programs to meet the Museum's mission, vision, guest practice service philosophy and practices, and other public engagement initiatives
In collaboration with the other Gallery Learning practice Coordinator, develop and manage the annual budgets for informal education programs
Assist the Director of Human Resources and Volunteerism in the hiring and orientation process of paid and unpaid informal education staff
In collaboration with the other Gallery Learning practice Coordinator, supervise paid and unpaid informal education staff, including provide appropriate training, manage schedules, assist with projects and goal setting, and evaluations
Work with the other Gallery Learning practice Coordinator to implement gallery specific training. Supervise the team members assigned primarily in the Global and Discovery Galleries, and as needed in other public programming areas of the Museum
Assist with the care and maintenance of the Museum's live animal collection

Secondary Functions:
Work with the Exhibits Director and partner organizations to create exhibits and displays for informal program areas and assist with their maintenance
Collaborate with other Public Education staff and the Communications Department to design and implement marketing plans to promote informal programming

Additional Functions:
As requested, assist the Development Department with grant applications and proposals to fund informal programming and projects
As needed, assist other Public Engagement team members to input reservations for special informal education programs into the Versai management software system
As needed, assist other Public Engagement team members with programs, events, exhibits and other initiatives

Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education or science-related field
Minimum of two years formal and/or informal science education and/or interpretation practice
Demonstrated expertise in program development, implementation, and evaluation
Demonstrated capability to communicate technical and complicated science-related concepts across diverse audience groups and age levels
Demonstrated expertise in developing new and strengthening existing partnerships within the scientific community including but not limited to universities, colleges, science-located industries and companies
Excellent written and verbal communication expertise and evident enthusiasm to communicate science to all ages in an engaging, professional manner
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite applications
capability to lift and move objects weighing up to 20 lbs. and capability to stand for extended periods of time

Schedule:
This is a full-time position defined by the Museum as 37.5 work hours per week, exclusive of a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. The regular schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. but may occasionally vary as needed to accommodate programming needs.
