James A. Michener Art Museum

The James A. Michener Art Museum seeks a dynamic, visionary designer to join our marketing and exhibitions teams!
The Graphic and Web Designer creates and implements designs across digital, print, and environmental media, including internal and external marketing, communications, the website, and exhibitions. This position contributes to projects that support the institution's goals to raise the profile of the Michener, increase onsite visitation and online engagement, and support audience development goals for all aspects of the institution's operations.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Director of Exhibitions, the Graphic and Web Designer joins the Museum at a pivotal moment in its history as a newly expanded executive leadership abilities team begins to define an ambitious strategic plan to ensure a sustainable future for the Michener. This includes a future-focused approach to a reimagined cultural space, empowering community voices, and a genuine and deep commitment to diversity and inclusion.

About the Michener Art Museum
The James A. Michener Art Museum was founded in 1988 as an independent, non-profit cultural institution dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the art and cultural heritage of the Bucks County region. The Museum is named for Doylestown's most famous son, the Pulitzer-Prize winning writer, James A. Michener who first dreamed of a regional art museum in the early 1960s. The Museum is housed in the former Bucks County Jail and has evolved from a modest facility with a locally derived mission to an AAM accredited museum with a broad vision. A solid collection of Pennsylvania Impressionist paintings, specialexhibitions showcasing a wide variety of historical and contemporary work as well as educational and public programs, attract annually more than 135,000 visitors from around the world, pre-pandemic.

Essential tasks and Job responsibilities:
   » •Manages the Michener's website and develop creative assets under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Director of Exhibitions.
   » Develops and designs an array of digital and print campaigns that help to tell the Michener's unique story with a focus on engaging members, visitors, and donors.
   » •Provides continuing graphic design support for the Museum, prioritizing and executing assignments across a variety of department requests.
   » •Governs the management of the Michener's website, including making updates, adding new content, and executing creative assets and landing pages located on existing brand guidelines and templates.
   » •Drives traffic to the website by ensuring content is built and tagged consistently with SEO/SEM techniques and best practices while upholding the editorial standards of the Michener brand.
   » •Maintains Michener's graphic and brand architecture design standards.
   » supervises visual asset management, serves as contact for internal and external requests for images.
   » Collaborates with colleagues across the institution (Curatorial, Public Engagement, Development, etc.) to adapt messaging into audience-focused content.
   » Interfaces with a variety of vendors to produce graphic materials, including the creation of exhibitions and signage for events.
   » Keeps up with emerging hardware, software, applications, resources, and techniques, and recommend ways to apply these technologies.
   » Ad hoc tasks as required.
Requirements:
   » Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related area of study.
   » 3-5 years of practice in a professional environment.
   » •Proficiency in graphics editing software on the Adobe Creative Cloud with a high proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effects.
   » Highly proficient in HTML5, XHTML, CSS design, cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility, firewalls, Access, Content Management Systems, and W3C Web standards.
   » Previous practice working with installations/environmental graphics
   » Great knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Google Analytics.
   » Proficient with UX (user practice) design.
   » Outstanding creative design expertise.
   » Exceptional oral and written communication.
   » Pro-active problem solving and idea generation.
   » capability to troubleshoot graphic design and website issues in a fast-paced environment.
   » Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
   » Creative partner, works well with others in a highly collaborative environment.

income is commensurate with practice plus excellent benefits. This is a full time regular, non-exempt position.
