Josh McCullar Architects LLC is a design focused firm creating site specific and timeless architecture for vision driven clients on projects ranging from private museums/art galleries, church/sacred space, and modern residences for urban and rural sites. The firm is seeking candidates to interview for the position of Architect for employment to begin in early 2022. This is a full-time salaried position and is considered permanent, with opportunities for a talented architect to contribute to the firm’s body of highly crafted, and well executed work. This position will collaborate closely with the firm’s Principal in an open studio environment. While the firm is located in Richmond, VA, its active client base extends from eastern Pennsylvania, through the Mid Atlantic, and into South Carolina. Candidates with practice along the East Coast or even nationally are desirable, and especially those who can source new project leads in the region for small to medium sized cultural and institutional work.
This position will be responsible for all or portions of working phases (depending upon project) including: initiating Concept Design, producing Design Development and Construction Document sets, coordinating with all engineering disciplines, and performing normal Construction Observation services in conformity with industry and AIA standards. This position will also evolve into assisting with strategic marketing, and client sourcing.

Appropriate qualifications:
   » Professional degree in Architecture with 7 to 10 years (preferred) of full-time practice taking projects (types as mentioned) from conception through construction (note: 5-8 years practice may be considered depending upon expertiseet)
   » Licensed Architect (preferred)
   » United States Citizen with no criminal background
   » Exceptional design talent, as evident by portfolio of work
   » Working academic knowledge of the history of architecture and of modern architecture, with capability to identify and research significant design precedent
   » capability to integrate Architecture, Interior Design, Site Planning, and Landscape Architecture as a whole practice of design
   » Thorough knowledge of Programming required for public cultural spaces and private residential spaces
   » capability to use hand sketches to communicate ideas
   » capability to produce schematic design models in Sketchup or Revit and integrate with rendering plugins (the firm will support the candidate’s recommendation)
   » Exceptional Digital Rendering capabilities as integrated with Revit
   » capability to produce full construction document sets in Revit
   » Exceptional knowledge and working knowledge of construction and material assemblies including: steel, wood, concrete, masonry, and glazing
   » capability to cross coordinate architectural work with all engineering disciplines
   » capability to research and apply building codes to the work, and capability to produce life-safety code plans (for the nonresidential projects)
   » capability to meet with code and zoning officials when required
   » Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication expertise
   » Collaborative problem-solving expertise with a professional work ethic
   » capability to present and discuss work to clients
   » capability to converse easily with construction contractors by phone and on site
   » availability to travel out of state on occasion for site visits or to help scope out leads
   » availability to assist when asked on proposals, client interviews, and contracts
