Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, in conjunction with Vidant Medical Center, provides a broad range of clinical services in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology for hospital and clinic patients. The Department houses residency, cytopathology, forensic pathology, and surgical pathology fellowship programs. The mission of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is to improve the health and well-being of the citizens of eastern North Carolina and beyond by delivering high quality pathology services, by providing exemplary education for medical students, residents, and other health care professionals, and by creating new expertise through research. As the field of Pathology continues to evolve, the Department will continue to uphold its commitment to provide the best diagnosis and treatment monitoring services to the citizens of eastern North Carolina.

Job tasks This position assists the Chair and Clinical Administrative Manager of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in carrying out his/her administrative activities by performing a variety of administrative functions, including: (1) independently organizing and implementing the support for the departmental activities and (2) serving as a staff adjunct in gathering, analyzing, editing and reporting information. The employee is responsible for interpreting and assisting in developing BSOM program policies and procedures. They will be asked to create spreadsheets, compose drafts of correspondence, represent the department at selected administrative meetings, and develop information and pro forma through research via the internet, library, and direct communication with individuals both within and without the institution. This position will also provide support for the Chair ?s administrative tasks related to deliverables in the Hospital contract for laboratory directorship.

Minimum Education/practice High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management practice; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management practice; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
