Primary Function of Organizational Unit The East Carolina University, School of Medicine, Pediatric Outpatient Clinic provides outpatient medical care for children from birth to age 21. The clinic staff assists clients in obtaining diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic illnesses as well as provides nursing care. Staff provides health education and access to information to enhance client health and to prevent illness. Staff provides for client comfort and safety while endeavoring to be as cost effective to keep medical costs down. The Pediatric Clinics are a service component of the Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine. These clinics are involved in the treatment of patients as a function of the training and education of medical students, physicians and allied health personnel in primary medical care on a regional consultative basis for eastern North Carolina.

Job tasks A Registered Nurse is needed to work in the pediatric outpatient clinical areas. This is a temporary, intermittent vacancy. The selected candidate will assist in the outpatient management of general pediatric patients. Independent nursing care will be expected, including administration of medications, phlebotomy, and IV therapy. The selected candidate will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a everyday basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. Strong oral and written communication expertise is essential.

Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flexible scheduled late day to accommodate patient care, Monday through Friday.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION - NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/practice Graduation from state-accredited school of professional nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education One year of pediatric nursing practice. Current basic CPR certification.

License or Certification Required by the Department State of North Carolina Registered Nursing License
