Offer: WESAT Host/Reporter:Pacific Public MediaJob description: WESAT Host/Reporter Listing description GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The WESAT host/reporter has two key Job responsibilities: hosting Weekend Edition Saturday and also contributing everyday and enterprise stories for both broadcast and the web. This person will help conceive ways to put their own stamp on the look and feel of WESAT. This person will also have an opportunity to craft their own beat and be part of a small reporting team that produces and reports compelling content within two hours, two days or two weeks, depending on the assignment. The host will work Tuesday-Saturday out of either the Seattle or Tacoma stations; this is not a remote position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND Job responsibilities: » Anchors Weekend Edition Saturday, preparing and delivering timely and accurate local newscasts that reflect a range of subject matter and geographic diversity. The goal is to make sure the newscasts flow well in and out of NPR programming » On-air and online news writing, rewriting newspaper stories/AP stories/press releases into broadcast copy and writing/producing original news reports » Announcing information during breaks in programming, i.e. weather reports and timely emergency alerts, station IDs, program and station event promos » Reading underwriting copy during a live newscast or recording underwriting copy for future use » Operating the broadcast console, EAS (Emergency Broadcast) equipment and related radio production work (telephone and studio recording/editing equipment) » Coordinate traffic reports with local traffic reporters » Maintains beat. Selects and researches topics; develops and interviews sources; maintains notes, recordings, and files; manages social media presence for newsgathering, news distribution, and branding purposes; writes and edits stories; produces stories for on-air and/or digital platforms » Proactively participates in the creative cycle of story and program origination with other reporters, producers, the adjunct news director and the news director » Participates in station membership campaigns and community-building events expertise, expertise & ABILITIES: » expertise of journalistic ethics and standards, specifically the standards of NPR News » capability to report in-depth news, research thoroughly and interviewing effectively » capability and advanced skill in producing high-quality audio and online news using clear writing, clean production, and smooth announcing » Understands and supports Pacific Public Media's public service mission, and PPM's Principles and Values Statement » capability to work under deadline pressure, make the best use of available resources, attend remote events, and respond effectively to diverse and changing circumstances. » capability to use and adapt to basic news technology, including: computers, phones, radio consoles, digital recorders, and cameras. » capability to work with an online content management system. » capability to work in a creative team environment, both remotely and in-person, and communicate effectively with manager and colleagues » capability to carry a news reporter kit to interviews, meetings, and other news events and file remotely REQUIRED Appropriate qualifications: » Bachelor's degree or equivalent. » Minimum of five years professional journalism practice, including hosting practice » Excellent news judgement » Comfortable in high pressure situations » Attention to detail, diligence in pronunciation and availability to prepare copy, practice for on-air reading and a high-level commitment to quality delivery and accuracy » expertise of journalistic ethics and standards » A driver's license, and the capability to reliably report from locations all over western Washington. » Proof of COVID vaccination PREFERRED Appropriate qualifications: » practice hosting public radio news programs » practice in public broadcasting » practice covering a beat » capability to report in a language other than English » Familiarity with the greater Seattle/Tacoma region COMPENSATION: $29.80 - $34.61 per hour (appx $62,000 - $72,000 per year) Membership in SAG-AFTRA is required.
