Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill future full-time and part-time Temporary Tourism, Recreation, and Adventure leadership abilities (TRAL) Outdoor adjuncts positions at Oregon State University-Cascades all over the 2021-2022 academic year.

Two TRAL areas of specialization are offered at OSU-Cascades: Nature, Eco and Adventure Tourism (NEAT) and Adventure leadership abilities Education (ALE). The intention of this pool is to collect applications for current or future opportunities and does not necessarily imply a position is available at this time.

During the Fall, Winter and Spring terms TRAL offers technical courses that focus on a variety of distinct disciplines. Intro to White Water Kayaking, Intro to Canoeing, Intermediate Paddlesports, Rock Site Management, Intermediate Rock Climbing, Land and River Expeditions and Snow Sport expertise and consciousness courses. The Temp Skilled Craft Outdoor adjunct will assist the instructor of record in delivering the results related to the specific course. They will assist with providing emphasis on activity and basic expertise, participate in field sessions, demonstrate and assist students in use of equipment and resources, provide individual and group activities to stimulate learning, assist giving safety briefings, and assist lead instructor in managing student safety on the water and land. The practiced Temp Skilled Craft Outdoor adjunct will assist in demonstrating up to date high level techniques for the required course. i.e. kayaking, canoeing, climbing and snow sports techniques.

OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon is a branch campus of Oregon State University. Established in 2001, the university currently enrolls more than 1,100 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs. The campus expanded to a four-year university in 2015, and opened its new campus in 2016. The branch campus has ambitious enrollment goals to reach 3,000 to 5,000 students by 2025. OSU-Cascades is engaged in building a culturally diverse and community-centric educational environment.

Position tasks 95%
The part time, temporary position is anticipated to last 6 - 10 weeks per 10-week term mostly week day afternoons with an occasional Saturday or extended multi-week field-time depending on the course.

Assist with fundamentals of the TRAL course, assist with activities and basic expertise. Assist Lead Instructor managing student safety.

Minimum Qualifications Varies

Additional Required Qualifications Must show documented practice for specific course being taught including, but not limited to:
Documented class IV kayaker, or canoer, or rafter, or documented sea kayak practice for paddlesports courses.

Competent and comfortable leading traditional and sport routes up to 5.9 for climbing courses.

Comfortable skiing and/ or riding black diamond and double black diamond terrain as well as varying back-country terrain.

BC Coach Award, or ACA Level IV certification, or 5 years of documented kayak and canoe practice.

AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Certification, or AMGA Rock Guide Course Completion, or PCIA Single Pitch Instructor Certification, or 5 years of documented rock climbing practice.

PSIA & AASI Instructor Certification, or AMGA Ski Guide Course Completion, or 5 years of documented skiing and/or riding practice.
