Organizational Unit Overview The Division of Infectious Diseases at The Brody School of Medicine provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of infections. Infectious Disease doctors help ensure the timely diagnosis and treatment of acute infections by recommending the appropriate diagnostic tests to identify the source of infections and by recommending the appropriate antibiotic to treat the infection. We are dedicated to the treatment of persons infected with HIV in Eastern North Carolina. Our physicians and physician extenders currently provide care for more than 1,000 patients in our clinic in Greenville as well as another 300 patients in clinics in surrounding counties. Faculty members are currently collecting data to address the issue of the disproportionate infection rate of HIV in African Americans. The division is involved in many clinical trials involving HIV therapies. These trials provide needed drugs to persons who may otherwise not be able to receive treatment.

Job tasks The employee will be providing social work professional services to clients with HIV/AIDS who have complex medical, behavioral, and social needs at the East Carolina HIV program in the Division of Infectious Disease.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION - NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/practice Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation None

Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education Bachelor's degree in social work or a related discipline and a minimal of three years practice in case management, client assessment, making referrals, and providing psycho-social support and counseling. practice with HIV+ clients and Ryan White programs is preferred.

License or Certification required by the Department None
