San Diego Zoo Wildlife AllianceMerchandise Sales Clerk - San Diego Zoo Safari ParkPRIMARY PURPOSEThe Merchandise Sales Clerk will support San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's (SDZWA) mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our skills in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature. The Merchandise Sales Clerk under supervision sells merchandise items. This position reports to a Manager. WHAT WILL YOU DO? » Work all tasks of a Food Service Clerk » Sells merchandise items » Explains related history of merchandise » Demonstrates operation of appropriate merchandise » Cleans and maintains sales displays and sales area » Keeps sales items in stock and on display » Orders above items as necessary and maintains an inventory » Keeps prices clearly posted and updated » Assists merchandise buyer » Registers sales » Makes change » Opens and closes registers » Rents and maintains strollers and wheelchairs » Provides information to the public or directs to a expertiseable source » Adheres to all SDZWA and department policies and practices » Performs related tasks and responsibilities as required WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? The San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s Retail Department is seeking friendly and motivated employees with excellent guest service skills. candidates must be available weekends and during holiday periods. This position requires standing for extended periods of time. Periodic heavy lifting up to 40 pounds and cleaning and maintaining all areas and equipment. Scheduled work hours will vary, approximately 15-30 hours per week. QUALIFICATIONS Training and/or practice that would demonstrate the essential functions, expertise and skills listed. SKILLS AND expertise » Merchandising methods and register practices » Background/history/operations of merchandising » Zoo and Safari Park rules and regulations » Operate a cash register accurately and efficiently » Understand and carry out instructions » Understand and communicate effectively with the public » Deal tactfully and courteously with the others in a diverse environment » Foresee needs and maintain stocks before depleted WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations; work in varying weather conditions and excessive heat; exposure to allergens; move about in work area; work in confined or cramped spaces. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Use a ladder, move and lift moderate to heavy objects up to 50 pounds; prolonged standing, bending, stooping and reaching.
