Position Summary This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Instructor position in the College of Forestry, with an academic home of the Departmental of Forest Engineering, Resources, and Management (FERM). Reappointment is at the discretion of the FERM Department Head.

The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the Forestry Student Logging Training Program (FSLTP). Management of the student workers includes hiring, training, onsite supervision, human resources and payroll. This position is responsible for reviewing and scheduling the logging sites, marketing the logs produced, and scheduling log hauling. This position is responsible for hiring and supervising additional contractors as required to fill functions in the logging operation. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining a documented safety program for the Forestry Student Logging Training Program.

70% - Program leadership abilities and Management
   » The primary responsibility is to provide leadership abilities for and management of the Forestry Student Logging Training Program.
   » Significant elements of these tasks are described below:
   » Provide forest operations training for students on safe and efficient work practices.
   » Establish and maintain a documented safety program for the FSLTP that includes (but is not limited to) training, safety performance, and a safety advisory committee.
   » Manage and maintain harvesting equipment and shop facilities that support the program.
   » Conduct a safe operation that is in full compliance with regulations according to OR-OSHA Division 7.
   » Prepare periodic and annual reports (e.g. budgets and financial management; worker training plans and safety program documentation).
   » Support the OSU College Forests management objectives and activities
10% - Support Teaching, Workshop and Research Activities
   » Provide support to harvesting research activities, and
   » Provide support to forestry classes 10% - Teaching
   » Teach or co-teach 1-2 upper-division course(s) within the broad discipline of Forestry, as needed 10% - Service
   » Assist the Department Head and OSU Foundation staff in seeking investments in the FSLTP for equipment and program support.
   » Serve on the OR-OSHA logging forestry activities committee.
   » Provide Power saw safety training for the OSU College of Forestry.
   » Service on departmental and college committees.
   » Responsible for the OSU booth at the Oregon Logging Conference.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
   » Bachelors degree
   » Demonstrated expertise and practice in logging practices and operations, sufficient to train new workers.
   » Demonstrated practice assessing risk in the context of logging worker safety and formulating plans to manage risk.
   » Physically able to execute logging tasks and to move about in the forest on steep and uneven terrain as required.
   » A commitment to create an inclusive working and learning environment, and empathy when mentoring diverse groups of people.
   » Demonstrated practice working in and managing cable logging operations.
   » Demonstrated capability to communicate effectively.
   » This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
