The purpose of the department is to improve the health of the people of eastern North Carolina through leadership abilities in Family Medicine education, research and health care services. The Firetower Medical Office is a clinical practice site that is in the Clinical Services Division of the Family Medicine Department. The mission of our division is to provide quality comprehensive care to families of all ages. Our team approach puts the patient at the center of their own medical care. We work with our staff as well as all members of the patient's care team to ensure the best possible care for the patient. The Firetower Medical office is committed to the continuing education of the Medical Students at the Brody School of Medicine. Job tasks Family Medicine seeks a Triage Nurse Specialist for the Firetower Medical Office. This position will perform the following tasks: A. Prioritizes incoming patient calls, assesses symptoms and utilizes clinical-decision support tools and triage standards of practice to determine appropriate care needed, scheduling same-day appointments and matching patient needs with appropriate care resources while maintaining care with continuity provider whenever possible. B. Performs an initial consultation with patient who enters Firetower Medical Office waiting area in need of care, assesses symptoms and utilizes clinical-decision support tools and triage standards of practice to determine appropriate care needed, scheduling same-day appointments and matching patient needs with appropriate care resources while maintaining care with continuity provider whenever possible. C. Demonstrates excellent problem solving and analytical expertise. D. Demonstrates effective communication expertise in relating to staff, patients, families, visitors and other health care professionals. CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION - NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT. The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Minimum Education/practice Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing practice, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
