The Texas Academy of leadership abilities in the Humanities Department is inviting applications for the position of Associate Director, Texas Academy of leadership abilities in the Humanities #498880 . This department is an accelerated program for gifted and talented high school students in Texas who desire enhanced student learning and leadership abilities in a variety of academic areas, including Humanities, STEAM, and Liberal Arts. Established in 1993, Texas Academy is a special legislative independent school recognized by the Texas State Legislature, Lamar University, and the Texas Education Agency.

This position reports to the Dean of the Reaud Honors College/ Director, TALH, the TALH Associate Director manages everyday operations of the Academy; coordinates a comprehensive admissions and recruitment program; and coordinates the development of an outstanding learning environment for high achieving high school juniors and seniors.

Position tasks

Essential Functions:
The prosperous candidate will:
   » Provide leadership abilities achieving the vision and mission of the Academy;
   » Provide instructional leadership abilities in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the leadership abilities curriculum and extracurricular programming, including regular student retreats and summer leadership abilities workshops and orientations;
   » Assist with the recruitment I retention/ graduation of TALH students;
   » Collaborates with staff on the formulation, implementation, enforcement, and review of TALH procedures, rules, and regulations;
   » Coordinate program assessment;
   » Plan meetings for students, staff, and residential adjuncts;
   » Assist with the development and management of the TALH annual budget;
   » Foster a climate of positive school-community-parent relations;
   » As delegated by the Dean / Director, supervise TALH faculty and staff;
   » Perform other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Appropriate qualifications: What You'll Need to Succeed


Minimum Required Qualifications, Skills, and practice:

   » expertise of college and university academic and student programs
   » expertise of TEA requirements and federal / state law regarding working with secondary school age students
   » 1-2 years practice with the implementation of high impact practices enhancing student learning and success, including learning communities, service learning, and co­-curricular learning programs
   » Excellent verbal and written communication skills
   » 1-2 years practice in the development, delivery, and assessment of faculty, staff, and student professional development and training programs
   » 1-2 years of previous practice in a secondary school setting or with high school aged students taking college classes;
   » Bachelor's degree
