Inspiring Girls Expeditions is a pre-college outreach program within CEOAS that provides primarily underserved young women (aged 16/17) with an opportunity to practice authentic scientific field research (glaciology, marine science, geology, ecology, forestry, etc) in a supportive environment that integrates art, science, and wilderness travel. The mission is to build curiosity, courage, and creativity through strong mentoring both during the expeditions and afterwards. The student in this position would help with the application process, social media communication, post-expedition mentoring, planning and logistics for training workshops and expeditions, and much more. The student in this position will gain valuable career development expertise in scientific research, teaching, and mentoring. Position tasks 100% : Logistics planning, social media communications, outdoor equipment organizing and inventorying, communication with instructors, coordinating application process, and organizing the post-expedition mentoring program, and possibly providing some mentoring for the young women after their expedition under guidance of our leadership abilities team. Preferred (Special) Qualifications » Junior or Senior student with an interest in graduate school in science, fine arts, or similar field (students in science field that incorporate field research are especially encouraged - such as marine science, geology, geophysics, forestry, or environmental philosophy or art). » Significant practice in outdoor activities such as mountaineering, sea kayaking, river rafting, climbing. » practice participating, teaching, or guiding in a field environment (such as summer camps, NOLS, Outward Bound).
