Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Outreach adjunct position for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).

Inspiring Girls Expeditions is a pre-college outreach program within CEOAS that provides primarily underserved young women (aged 16/17) with an opportunity to practice authentic scientific field research (glaciology, marine science, geology, ecology, forestry, etc) in a supportive environment that integrates art, science, and wilderness travel. The mission is to build curiosity, courage, and creativity through strong mentoring both during the expeditions and afterwards.

The student in this position would help with the application process, social media communication, post-expedition mentoring, planning and logistics for training workshops and expeditions, and much more. The student in this position will gain valuable career development expertise in scientific research, teaching, and mentoring. Position tasks 100% : Logistics planning, social media communications, outdoor equipment organizing and inventorying, communication with instructors, coordinating application process, and organizing the post-expedition mentoring program, and possibly providing some mentoring for the young women after their expedition under guidance of our leadership abilities team.

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Student majoring in science, fine art, or similar field.
   » Interest in and some practice with activities such as hiking, sea kayaking, climbing.
   » Strength with organizing information, prompt and efficient with work goals and deadlines.
   » This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » Junior or Senior student with an interest in graduate school in science, fine arts, or similar field (students in science field that incorporate field research are especially encouraged - such as marine science, geology, geophysics, forestry, or environmental philosophy or art).
   » Significant practice in outdoor activities such as mountaineering, sea kayaking, river rafting, climbing.
   » practice participating, teaching, or guiding in a field environment (such as summer camps, NOLS, Outward Bound).
