Job detail

The Senior Writer will be an practiced professional who will help UVA Health achieve its fundraising goals by conceptualizing, writing and editing content that excites readers and inspires philanthropic support. They will take the lead in creating prosperous principal gift-level proposals in partnership with teams across Health Development and with faculty and staff. They will craft content that makes science and complex concepts understandable and exciting for lay audiences and presents a compelling case for support. Additionally, their responsibility will include creating persuasive fundraising proposal templates, video scripts and web content.
The Senior Writer will also serve as the managing editor for UVA Health's print and digital philanthropy magazines/e-newsletters, PULSE and Investing in Hope. With guidance from the Senior Director and collaboration with other HD Communications team members, they will write and edit content, manage freelance writers and photographers, and supervise the graphic design and digital placement. In addition, they will work closely with the Senior Director of Communications on campaign messaging and case development and will serve as a strategic resource for defined teams across the office.
Principal Gifts Writer: 40%
   » In partnership with teams across the office, gather content, manage, and write all proposals at the $1 million+ level. They will also edit proposals written by development agents and offer guidance and support as needed
   » Lead the development of proposal templates, including evergreen content that development agents can use on their own for campaign priorities
   » Provide strategic campaign communications support to the Senior Director of Communications by helping create campaign materials, including case statements, white papers, inserts, and other pieces as necessary
   » Provide communications strategy and support for assigned areas/programs. Share communications support for the Brain and Cancer Center teams with Senior Director of Communications; lead communications needs for the Healthcare Philanthropy programs
Managing Editor Digital and Print Publications: 40%
   » Work with the Senior Director to produce PULSE and Investing in Hope as campaign e-newsletters/print publications. Work with the printing company to ensure high-quality production for donors and prospects
   » Serve as the managing editor of the publications; help set strategy, story lists, and production schedules. With direction from Senior Director and leadership abilities, assign articles, and write and edit pieces as needed
   » Manage freelance writers, designers, videographers and photographers
   » Upload content to the HSD website and work with the printing company to ensure high-quality publications for donors and prospects
   » Work closely with the adjunct Director to produce creative online versions of the newsletters
Digital and other writing: 20%
   » Develop/edit video scripts for various digital campaign initiatives
   » Review and repurpose/edit content from other Health System publications for web use while ensuring that all permissions and procedures are followed
   » Collaborate with other communications teams across grounds to incorporate content into various university channels
   » Work with Senior Director to develop case materials, messaging and themes for campaign initiatives
   » Draft speaking points for leadership abilities

In addition to having proof of a Covid vaccination, hired employees are required to have Proof of Measles immunity, Mumps & Rubella immunity, Tdap, Flu annually, Chicken Pox immunity.?
This position will remain open until filled. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. This position will not sponsor candidates for work visas. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availcapability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $72k – $83k commensurate with education and practice. This is primarily a sedentary job involving broad use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
