Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a clinical science department within the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The primary functions of the department are teaching obstetrics and gynecology to medical students, resident physicians, post graduate students, nurses and other allied health professionals; providing clinical service to the region; and supporting research activities.

Job tasks The Medical adjunct provides clinical support to the nursing and medical staff within the Ob/Gyn Outpatient Clinic. This position is responsible for maintaining patient flow, performing patient work-up, assisting health care providers with clinic procedures and performing basic laboratory tests. In addition, this adjunct may schedule appointments, call prescriptions in to the pharmacy or perform other clerical tasks as required to support the physician and nursing staff.

Minimum Education/practice Requires certification through the American Association of Medical adjuncts (AAMA); or, requires prosperous completion of the requirements from an accredited medical assisting program that permit eligibility to sit for national exam.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation Certification through the American Association of Medical adjuncts (AAMA). If not already certified, please note that Certified Medical adjunct (CMA) certification through the American Association of Medical adjuncts must be obtained within 6 months from your start date for continued employment.
