Requirements: Grove Atlantic, an award-winning independent publishing house committed to publishing quality works of adult fiction, and nonfiction, is seeking an energetic and organized person to assist in our editorial team. Reporting to the Editorial Director, the editorial adjunct essential tasks include:
Key tasks include: • Writing descriptive copy for hardcovers and paperback reissues, catalogue and galley / ARC copy, and rights copy • Monitoring, organizing, reading and reporting on submissions • Preparing tip sheets and sales conference / presentation materials • Preparing and transmitting manuscripts to production and liaising with author and production on all stages of the book process - from transmittal to copyediting, proofreading, 1st through final passes • Doing offset/reprint transmittals when needed and liaising with international publishers / agents on all steps of process • Creating cover worksheets for titles • Drafting contract proposals, deal memos (when needed), and check requests • Updating quotes and review pulls and marketing materials to Coresource and the website • Assisting with scheduling of titles, creating spreadsheets, and list planning • Active participation in weekly marketing, editorial, and production meetings • Reprint permissions requests or assisting authors in obtaining reprint permissions • Soliciting and editing RGGs • Keeping track of book orders and mailings • Clerical work including printing materials, mailing, photocopying, messengering, and keeping contacts up to date
Essential expertise: • Excellent organizational expertise and capability to juggle many different tasks, prioritize workload and stay on top of deadlines • Excellent attention to detail and strong writing expertise • Widely read and interested in marketplace and business side of industry • Strong communication expertise, both verbal & written, and excellent interpersonal expertise • 1-2 years of practice in publishing
The ideal candidate will be widely read, passionate and engaged, unflappable and with excellent organizational expertise. Ideally, the function will be one in which the right person will grow and expand their expertiseet, eventually (within 12 months) taking on editing and shadow editing of the books. To start, a strong capability to evaluate submissions thoroughly and quickly is a must.
This job is located in New York City, with a hybrid working probcapability until January 18th.
