The Virginia offices will be serving hundreds of Afghan pafunctiones this year. This position focuses on support of legal services for Afghan pafunctiones, to include a range of services such as legal orientations, individual screenings, family-located immigrant petitions and adjustments of status, and affirmative asylum. Staff hired in this function may work towards Department of Justice accreditation. Job tasksMajor Job responsibilities:» Under supervision of the Senior Legal Representative, screen clients for immigration benefits. » Provide clients with information about immigration benefits available through USCIS, work with clients to gather documents, and assist clients to complete applications. » Respond to inquiries from clients regarding case status and submit inquiries on case status to USCIS and/or Department of State (DOS). » Notify clients of correspondence from USCIS and DOS, and assist clients, as directed, to prepare responses to inquiries. » Maintain accurate and up-to-date physical and electronic files and detailed case notes, enter required data in a timely manner, meet all case reporting requirements within established timelines and standards, and assist in the completion of statistical, narrative, and financial reports. » Represent the IRC with clients, community members, and partners by receiving and returning phone calls and emails, scheduling appointments, supporting events (including group processing events), and conducting outreach for legal services. » Maintain strict client confidentiality and observe all other ethical practices/obligations as outlined in IRC's Immigration Program Policies Manual. » Manage intern and volunteer support as needed. expertise RequiredJob Requirements:» Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment with Limited English Proficient populations. » capability to work effectively in a team environment. This includes adhering to established procedures, as well as taking independent initiative within established parameters. » capability to maintain client confidentiality. » Attention to detail and strong organizational expertise » Lgain and use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Box, Teams), and online immigration software. » Communicate with proficiency in written and spoken English. » Proficiency or fluency in written and spoken Dari and/or Pashto strongly preferred. » Demonstrated dedication to immigrant rights, social justice, and/or human rights located on work or life practice, volunteer service, or educational activities. Preferred practice & expertise: » Previous work or first-hand practice with immigration legal or social services is strongly preferred. » Familiarity with data entry and composing correspondence using the United States Standard keyboard is a plus. » Community-located outreach and/or work promoting immigrant rights practice is a plus.
