Position Title:: Residential Area Manager

Position Summary or Faculty Appropriate qualifications: The Residential Area Manager works cooperatively with the Residence Life staff to create a positive and inclusive living-learning community for students consistent with the University's Jesuit mission. The Residential Area Manager position is a live-in position, responsible for the overall management of a residential area of 250-600 students. The primary focus of the position is on student development and learning, within the context of building strong living learning communities.

The Residential Area Manager supervises a staff of 8-20 Resident adjuncts and 1-2 Head Resident adjuncts. This position works closely with other members of the Residence Life team and Student Life staff to provide programming and a living environment that complements students' educational practices. Additional responsibilities include serving as a student conduct hearing agent, assisting in the coordination of departmental initiatives such as RA Selection and RA Training, and working with Facilities Management and Public Safety to promote student safety.

tasks and Job responsibilities:: · Manage an assigned residential area of 250-600 resident students.
· Train, supervise, and evaluate 8 to 20 Resident adjuncts and 1 to 2 Head Resident adjuncts.
· Enforce and interpret University and Residence Life policies.
· Serve as student conduct hearing agent to adjudicate violations of University policies.
· Rotate weekday, weekend, and University Holiday on- call duty with the other RAM staff.
· Support the University isolation/quarantine housing program by providing on-call management of health-related moves and student needs.
· Facilitate departmental and area programming and community development located on the departmental programming model and additional University-wide programs, lectures, and events.
· In cooperation with the adjunct Director of Residential Education, ensure the participation in and success of Residential Learning Communities assigned to area, if applicable.
· Effectively manage budget responsibilities for residential are programming.
· Assist with the coordination of and actively participate in Residence Life student staff selection, training, and evaluation, annual housing selection processes, everyday office operations, assessment efforts, and departmental initiatives.
· Work closely with the entire Residence Life staff to ensure that the department is fulfilling its responsibility to provide a positive educational, social, cultural, and spiritual campus-living practice for all residents.
· In cooperation with the Housing & Operations central staff members, assess and actively manage the physical condition of the residence halls relative to their cleanliness and maintenance needs.
· Complete routine health and safety inspections.
· Keep accurate records of damages and fines for student billing.
· Develop and maintain a productive working relationship with the members of Facilities Management, Housekeeping, Dining Services, and the Student Life Team.
· Coordinate and/or actively participate in key summer projects including, but not limited to: summer school housing, summer Passport Program, housing assignments, New Student Orientation, revision of publications and staff manuals, planning of fall RA Training, early arrival programs, and other special projects.

Secondary Job responsibilities:: · Work collaboratively with members of Student Life and others members of the University community to establish a positive campus environment in which students excel academically, spiritually, and personally.
· Attend professional seminars, and/or conferences significant to the responsibilities of the position. Participate in and contribute to the professional development efforts of the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Life.
· Work respectfully with all staff, students, and parents regardless of their race, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, national origin, gender identity, age, or discapability.
· Communicate the Jesuit philosophy, departmental mission, and University policies to the residential community, parents, students, and personnel as appropriate.
· Meet regularly with Resident Ministers/Faculty Residents to facilitate their involvement in the halls.
· Maintain a high degree of professionalism and serve as a positive function model to staff and student.
· Serve on University and Student Life committees as necessary.
· Other assigned tasks.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:: · Shared on-call duty rotation for evenings, weekends, and University holidays; significant evening hours in order to attend programs, training sessions, and meet with students.
· While employed in this position, you are required to live in one of the University's residence halls. As such, included in your employment offer is the use of a furnished apartment in a residence hall with utilities and local telephone use paid by the University. In addition, a full university meal plan is available to you while the University is in session.

Minimum Requirements:: · Bachelor's degree and some prior Residence Life practice.
· Strong supervision, communication, and managerial expertise are necessary.
· Availcapability to live in the residence halls.
· knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Saint Joseph's University.

Preferred Appropriate qualifications:: · Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education or closely related major.
· 1 - 3 years prior Residence Life practice at the graduate or professional level.
· Demonstrated capability to be student focused.
· Previous demonstration of a collaborative work style.
· Demonstrated commitment to nurturing inclusive communities within the residence halls.
