Listing description income:$5,500/month minimum; income commensurate with education and practice.

KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle's NPR news station. KUOW has an outstanding and rare opportunity for anArts Reporter, covering cover the arts, the people making Information technology and the impact Information technology has on our local community. This reporter will be responsible for taking KUOW's audience inside the world of creators, from large concert halls to the studios of new and emerging artists. They will delve into the way culture is expressed in our diverse region, including through music, craft, tradition, film, performance, and storytelling. They will tell stories exploring the intersection of arts, culture and underrepresented communities, as well as how emerging social trends are being expressed through art and music. The ideal candidate for this position is a dynamic conversationalist comfortable on both sides of the mic. They should be able to host lively, memorable discussions on-air and out in the community, in addition to producing compelling audio storytelling for radio and podcasts.

tasks & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify and craft compelling arts stories for multiple platforms including broadcast audio, web, video, podcasts
• Pursue stories at the intersection of arts, culture, and underrepresented communities
• Convene and host conversations with the local arts communities and engage regularly with key stakeholders
• Contribute reports to drive-time shows and everyday newscasts as needed
• Maintain a wide variety of sources and contacts
• Appear on KUOW talk shows and at live events to present and discuss stories
• Actively engage with social media and source networks as a reporting and distribution tool.
• Meet everyday filing schedule that may require occasional evening and weekend work.
• Work closely with editors and content producers in creating plans that articulate a vision and strategy for coverage of the arts.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Position reports to a KUOW Editor

Requirements include:

• Bachelor's degree and three years of professional journalism practice with significant practice covering the arts; or equivalent combination of education/practice.
• Core knowledge or practice with audio production equipment and techniques
• Demonstrated strength in producing for digital platforms
• knowledge of emerging platforms
• Impeccable journalistic integrity and editorial judgment.
• capability to manage several projects concurrently.
• capability to work independently and as part of a team and to professionally represent the station.

Equivalent education/practice will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
