Requirements: Ulysses Press, a trade book press with offices in Berkeley, California, and New York City, New York, is seeking an enthusiastic, part-time editorial adjunct to join our publishing team in Brooklyn, New York. This job reports to the Director of Editorial & Acquisitions and is a six-month commitment, with a possibility to extend for the right candidate.
This person will work closely with the Ulysses Press acquisitions department in our Brooklyn office, providing administrative support in order to find viable book projects on a wide variety of non-fiction topics.
Job responsibilities: Provide general administrative support to the editorial team, including preparing acquisition materials, and market research Keep abreast of not only book industry trends but current popular culture, entertainment, lifestyle, and consumer trends Closely monitor sales and search data, reporting regularly on trends Write catalog, cover and promotional copy Traffic projects through production, developmental editing where needed, and working closely with the production department Assist the marketing and production departments as needed
Required Appropriate qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Highly creative with an interest in pop culture trends Proven capability to juggle several projects at once while meeting deadlines Excellent verbal and written communication expertise capability to problem solve, work independently, and complete tasks without supervision A strong interest in book publishing, specifically non-fiction capability to commute at minimum once a week to our Downtown Brooklyn office Preferred Appropriate qualifications: practice writing marketing copy and/or developmental editing practice with data analysis and/or working with large datasets practice with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
Compensation & Work Schedule: Hourly rate of $21.63 16 hours per week (with at least 8 hours per week in the office vs. remote)
