WUWM looks for dedicated people who are ready for a challenge. THE STATION: WUWM is a growing station with an award-winning newsroom and a commitment to Public Media for All's DEI initiatives. We have a team of about 35 with offices located on the Riverwalk in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. Our offices are an easy walk (or short drive) to Lake Michigan beaches, cultural destinations, the Milwaukee Bucks arena, and Summerfest, which bills itself as the ?World's Largest Music Festival.? MORE ABOUT THE AREA: Milwaukee is Wisconsin's largest city, with a metro area of about 1.5 million. The region features distinct neighborhoods with their own character, an broad county parks system, a thriving restaurant scene, dog parks, local coffee roasters, the Harley-Davidson Museum, America's Black Holocaust Museum (reopening February 2022), an annual film festival, the Milwaukee Brewers, Potawatomi Bingo Casino and more. If you like to travel, the state has beautiful destinations with lots to see and do, including numerous state parks, Door County, Wisconsin Dells and the wooded and lake-rich region of northern Wisconsin. Chicago is about a two-hour drive away (a ride of about 90 minutes by train). General Assignment Reporter: There's a never-ending stream of important and interesting stories to tell in Milwaukee and Wisconsin. You can help tell them by becoming the new General Assignment Reporter for WUWM 89.7 - Milwaukee's NPR. You'll join a welcoming team that values your ideas for stories to cover and how to tell them. We're excited about helping each other grow and we cheer each other's successes. In addition to reporting on the everyday news, you'll have ample opportunities to pursue enterprising long form stories, to contribute to NPR and to WUWM's everyday program, Lake Effect, and to help plan and produce series and other special coverage. This position has a income of $49,000 - $55,000 plus an excellent benefits package, which includes about five weeks of vacation each year. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS; -A bachelor's degree and 3 years practice, OR 5 years of practice in broadcast journalism -Demonstrated capability to discover and produce in-depth issue-oriented stories for broadcast and digital platforms. PREFERRED QUALIFCIATIONS: -Demonstrated familiarity with Southeastern Wisconsin issues -Demonstrated expertise ofWUWMand/or public radio -Audio editing practice -practice working with or covering diverse populations.
