Job Opportunity: Royalties & Finance Analyst:Root Literary LLC

Job description:

Royalties & Finance Analyst
Published: Nov. 15, 2021

Offered by:
Root Literary LLC

advantages:
Health; Dental; 401K; Flexible hours; Remote work

Duration:
Full Time

Job location:
Los Angeles, CA

Requirements:
We're seeking a detail-oriented, self-directed royalties and finance analyst. This is a remote-work, flexible scheduling position. You will perform routine in-house review and analysis of publisher-generated royalty statements, track receipt of statements, input statements and payments into our rights database, and answer client questions about statements as needed. Because royalty work ebbs and flows all over the year, this function will also manage the agency's payment tracking in tandem with a third-party bookkeeper and the agency president. On a everyday basis, you will input any money received by the agency into our payment tracker and rights database, accurately calculating any commissions due to agents or payments due to clients. Corresponding payment notices and any invoices needed are generated weekly, and monthly you will report this data to our bookkeeper.

The ideal candidate will be great with numbers, love solving the small mysteries that often await in royalty statements, possess a strong work ethic, and take initiative to provide excellent communication to the agents and agency's clients. We'll provide support and training on publishing specifics, but you must be comfortable and confident interpreting royalty statements and legal agreements in general.

We love working with book lovers in every part of our company, but this job is not the right fit for someone who is interested in pursuing a career as a literary agent, author, or illustrator; there is room to grow the position within a finance vertical as the agency grows, but we're looking for a specialist to take ownership of our royalties and payments processes and procedures.

You might be a perfect match if:
-You have practice working in royalties, rights management, or accounting, particularly at an agency or in-house at a publisher or studio
-You have exceptional attention to detail and organizational expertise
-You're self-directed, with strong time management expertise
-You're data-driven, with a knack for explaining numbers to artistically-minded creatives and excellent written and verbal communication expertise
-You have practice with databases and Google Sheets/Excel, and a availability to explore new tech systems to streamline processes as needed
-You're discreet, and when Information technology comes to client information, you're a vault
-You're a kind and supportive colleague

Job responsibilities:
-Track receipt of statements and connected payments, communicating with publishers' royalty departments and accounts payable personnel as needed
-Process and review royalty statements for accuracy against significant contract terms
-Communicate with agents and publishers' representatives to correct inaccuracies as needed
-Serve as point person for communication with clients and agents about royalty statements and payments
-Proactively find ways to improve agency workflows as related to royalty tracking, review, and accounting
-Organize statements and reports in a cloud-located filing system
-Accurately log money received into a payment tracker/rights database and issue payments accordingly
-Coordinate with third-party bookkeeper and provide statements to ensure all agency accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis
-Issue and track invoices to publishing partners on an as-needed basis
-Onboard the agency and clients into publisher payment systems on an as-needed basis
-Administrative office tasks connected with above responsibilities, including email and data entry in our rights database

This is presently envisioned as a remote, full-time position, with flex scheduling, but California-located candidates are strongly preferred. The heaviest royalty seasons are typically from March-April and September-October. We offer competitive pay, health insurance, and a retirement plan with company match.

We strongly encourage women, minorities, queer, and disabled candidates to apply.
